As we approach the change of season later this month, we can look forward to longer, warmer days, as well as to a fuller NEWEA calendar.

DC Fly In to Take Place in Washington, DC April 14-15


Join NEWEA, NEWWA, and our 12 drinking water and clean water state associations in Washington, DC April 14-15 to connect with congressional offices and share your story on important water quality issues during Water Week 2026. Deadline to register is March 13.

Register for the Operations Challenge Training Day by March 25


Join us on March 27 at the Westborough WWTF for the Operations Challenge Facility Tour and Training Day! This event offers a tour of the facility, classroom and hands-on experience, and information about the Operations Challenge.

Student Design Competition Initial Entry Deadline is March 20


Undergraduate/graduate student teams are invited to enter NEWEA's 2026 Student Design Competition (SDC)! The SDC is intended to promote a real world design experience for students interested in pursuing a career in water engineering and sciences.

2026 Spring Meeting Save the Date & Room Block

Join NEWEA in North Falmouth, MA May 17-20 for our 2026 Spring Meeting.


This meeting will convene more than 300 engineers, consultants, scientists, operators, and students for a variety of technical sessions, a tour, exhibitor displays, the Operations Challenge competition, and much more.


NEWEA's room block at the Sea Crest Beach Resort is now open. Rooms start at $199++ per night and are subject to space and date availability. Reserve before April 25th. Reserve your stay online or call 800-225-3110 to book.

2025 Stormy Award Nominations Due March 15

New England Stormwater Collaborative, formed by New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), and the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association (NEAPWA), is currently accepting submissions for its 2025 Stormy Awards.


This program aims to identify New England's best stormwater work. The competition is open to all projects conducted in 2025 throughout EPA Region 1. The program accepts submissions of simple, unique, innovative stormwater ideas in the following categories:


  • Stormwater Management/Green Infrastructure
  • Political Support/Funding/Outreach
  • Program Efficiency/Technology


2025 winners will present on their projects at the NEAPWA Annual Conference, held in the Summer 2026 (date TBD). 


The submission deadline is March 15, 2026.

Water Environment Federation (WEF) News

The following news was included in the February edition of WEF's Member Association (MA) newsletter.


  • The WEF House of Delegates Work Group on Developing Strategies for Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seeking input via a brief survey on the current use of AI within the water industry. Complete the survey at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HWYRLB3
  • WEF, in coordination with Raftelis, is hosting the next webinar in the Workforce Development Case Study Series: Building the Future Water Workforce series on March 3.
  • WEF is now accepting submissions for the 2026 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize. Local students can submit their water research project to NEWEA's competition by April 15th, 2026.
  • WEF is conducting a national Operations & Maintenance Benchmarking Survey focused on wastewater collection systems. This survey aims to understand current operations and maintenance (O&M) practices, particularly cleaning activities, across diverse systems in terms of size, ownership (public and private), location, and other relevant factors.

Connecticut: The deadline to enroll as a 2026 CTWEA Sponsor is March 27.


Maine: Entries for MEWEA's Clean Water Week Poster Contest are due by March 20.


Massachusetts: MAWEA is hosting their Spring Meeting in Devens, MA on March 25.


New Hampshire: NHWPCA is hosting their Legislative Breakfast on March 5 at the Hotel Concord. The deadline to register is March 2.


Rhode Island: A recording of RICWA's Clean Water Legislative Summit is now available online.


Vermont: Registration is now open for GMWEA's Spring Meeting, taking place May 21 at the Killington Grand in Killington, VT.
