NEWEA and New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) are hosting a Joint Workforce Development & Sustainability Conference on June 4th in Worcester, MA. The conference will highlight workforce development programs being currently offered throughout New England and nationally.

Poo and Brew Networking Event

The Young Professionals Committee's next Poo and Brew will be held on June 5 and include a tour of the Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility, followed by a networking event at Navigation Brewery.

Award Nominations are Now Being Accepted

Honor the work of a deserving water professional by submitting an award nomination on their behalf. Self nominations are encouraged. Award recipients will be honored at the Awards Ceremony and Luncheon at NEWEA's 2026 Annual Conference. Nomination submissions are due by May 31, 2025.

2026 Annual Conference Abstracts are Now Being Accepted

This prestigious conference, which will take place January 25-28, 2026, annually attracts over 2,200 water professionals for several days of technical sessions, exhibits, student poster displays, and more. This year's conference theme is Stronger Together: Planning for our One Water Future. Abstracts are due June 13.

Teacher Training 2025 to Take Place on August 14

NEWEA's Youth Education Committee is hosting a Teacher Training (K-12) at the MWRA’s Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Winthrop, MA. Teachers are invited to learn about NEWEA classroom presentations and engage in a hands-on Earth Echo Water Challenge workshop that can be repeated with students! Attendees can even schedule a treatment plant tour for their class during the school year.

WEN to Host Spring Meet-Up

Join the Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) for an evening of casual conversation and connection at Night Shift Brewing in Everett, MA on May 28. Light snacks will be provided. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. There is no cost to attend, but please RSVP by clicking the button below. Attendance is limited.

Call for Abstracts Deadline Extended:

Small Communities/Sustainability

The NEWEA Small Communities and Sustainability Committees continue to accept abstract submissions for "Sustainability in Small Communities", their jointly hosted one-day conference addressing the sustainability practices of wastewater systems designed to handle less than 1 MGD. 


This conference will take place September 8, 2025 at the Publick House in Sturbridge, MA.


Submit online by May 16, 2025. Presenters will be expected to register for the conference, and no travel or assistance funds are available for speakers.

Enroll to Compete in & Register to Attend the Source Water Brewers Competition

With the goal of increasing public awareness of water quality, NEWEA is seeking homebrewers for our Source Water Brewers Competition. 


This friendly competition will challenge each brewer to create an original beer using local source water from your tap. Brewers must provide 150-300 ounces of beer in bottles, cans, growlers, or kegs for pouring at the Source Water Brewers Competition on August 6, 2025 at Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. Prior to the competition, a tour of Harpoon's wastewater treatment plant will be offered.

WEFTEC Attendee Housing Now Open

Hotel room blocks are now open for WEFTEC 2025! Secure accommodations at an official WEFTEC hotel by September 3.


Important Dates


  • Friday, August 8, 2025 – Rooming list due date for blocks of 10 or more rooms.
  • Wednesday, September 3, 2025 – Last day to cancel a group block without penalty.
  • Wednesday, September 17, 2025 – Last day to change/cancel reservations through WEFTEC Housing.
  • Friday, September 19, 2025 – Reservation changes/cancellations can be made directly with the hotels.
  • 72-hours prior to arrival – Deadline to cancel reservations to avoid a penalty of one night’s room and tax.

Connecticut: CTWEA's 2025 Sewer Open Golf Outing is sold out, but there are still opportunities to sponsor the event.


Maine: Voting is now open for the MEWEA 2025 Clean Water Week Poster Contest.


Massachusetts: May 7 is the final day to get the pre-registration rate for MAWEA's 2025 Trade Show & BBQ, taking place on May 28 at Wachusett Mountain.


New Hampshire: NHWPCA's Summer Meeting will take place at Ellacoya State Park in Gilford, NH on June 27.


Rhode Island: The RICWA Annual Awards Banquet is taking place May 9 at the Cranston Country Club.


Vermont: The deadline to register for GMWEA's Spring Meeting, taking place May 22 in Killington, VT, is May 14.
