Spring Meeting

June 7-9, 2023

Although we're only just approaching the halfway mark of 2023, the NEWEA office is already looking ahead to next year, specifically our 2024 Annual Conference. We recently opened our call for abstracts and will be accepting submissions until June 16. We are also now accepting award nominations. Selected recipients will be honored at the Awards Ceremony & Luncheon at the 2024 Annual Conference. Scroll down to learn more and access links to submit an abstract and award nomination.

Before we fully shift gears to Annual Conference planning, we will be holding our second largest event of the year, our Spring Meeting. This year's event, which is being jointly hosted with New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), is taking place June 7-9 in Saratoga Springs, NY. More information and links to the program, registration, exhibit package, and sponsorship/advertising opportunities can be found below.

In addition to planning for coming events, NEWEA is planning for the future of our organization. We are currently accepting nominations for officer vacancies. Officers are voting members of NEWEA's Executive Committee and help to develop and implement NEWEA's policies and programs. More information and links to submit can be found below.

Check out the rest of the newsletter for more on committee news and details on upcoming events. Until next newsletter, we hope everyone has a great month and stays healthy.

As always, we invite you to contact Jordan Gosselin at jgosselin@newea.org with committee news and updates you would like to share in future editions.

Wright-Pierce Announces New President and CEO

Wright-Pierce announced Paul Birkel has been named as the new President and CEO, succeeding John Braccio. Birkel has been with Wright-Pierce for over three decades, most recently as Executive Vice President and Wastewater Practice Group Leader, and has been transitioning into his new role for the past five years.

“I started my career at Wright-Pierce in 1990 and have experienced four CEO transitions during that time, this one included. Our plan is to remain a legacy firm for our employees and our focus on succession planning and ownership transition affords us this luxury. While each new CEO brings different initiatives and ideas to the table, I plan to focus on our people, our processes, and maintaining technical excellence in our work products as we grow and expand into new geographic areas.” Wright-Pierce maintains one of its differentiators as a firm is that it is owned, operated, and led by its practitioners – this allows the leadership team to stay deeply connected to the engineering work being performed.
