October Marks the 50th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act
Throughout 2022, NEWEA has been commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, the law passed in 1972 to regulate the discharge of pollutants into water and protect our water resources. We recognized this monumental anniversary at several events and in our publications, including a “Future of the Clean Water Act” panel at our 2022 Annual Conference; a Clean Water Act success stories technical session at our 2022 Spring Meeting; and a themed issue of our NEWEA Journal.

October 18 is the official anniversary date of the CWA's enactment. NEWEA will be recognizing this anniversary throughout October with a series of articles about the history and progress made within NEWEA and the water industry the last 50 years; future challenges facing the industry and region and updates needed to protect our water environment; and success stories from the six New England states.

Follow us on NEWEA's social media and the latest news section on NEWEA's site throughout October to learn more.
Sewer Heroes: Fighting the Fatberg
Sewer Heroes: Fighting the Fatberg is a new proposed Lego set that highlights water and wastewater professionals and the vital work they do for our communities and environment.

The set depicts water professionals working to remove a fatberg from a combined sewer. The walkable sewer portrayed in the set is accessed by a manhole and a jet/vac truck is included to highlight the high-pressure water jetting and vacuum equipment needed to help tackle the fatberg.

For this set to be produced, it needs 10,000 votes. Visit Lego's website to learn more and cast your vote in support of this model.
