Although it's not officially Fall yet, the shorter days, cooler mornings, and return of pumpkin spice everything certainly makes New England feel less summery.
As we approach Fall, NEWEA's calendar will start filling up with technical conferences. This week, we'll be hosting the Energy and Plant Operations Technical Session and a tour of South Essex Sanitary District. Space is limited for this event; fewer than 10 spots are left. The link to register can be found below.
Later this season, NEWEA and NEBRA will be co-hosting the Northeast Residuals and Biosolids Conference in Portsmouth, NH. The program will include a panel discussion on master planning, a tour of the Dover water resource recovery facility showcasing new solids handling technology, a session dedicated to PFAS and related solids management issues, and much more. This year we will also celebrate NEBRA’s 25th Anniversary. Registration, the program, and exhibit information will soon be available for this event.
Also forthcoming is additional information about our 2023 Annual Conference & Exhibit. Exhibit registration is now open for this event; additional information and links to reserve your booth can be found below. In the coming months, we'll also be releasing information about sponsorship, the program, and more.
In addition to our technical conferences, we'll be hosting our annual Fall Golf Tournament at the end of this month. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a beautiful Fall day on the course and connect with your water industry colleagues. Register using the link below by September 16 to get the best rate.
Check out the rest of the newsletter for more on committee news and details on upcoming events. Until next newsletter, we hope everyone has a great month and stays healthy.
As always, we invite you to contact Jordan Gosselin at jgosselin@newea.org with committee news and updates you would like to share in future editions.

NEWEA's latest video, "What my Parents do for Work", is now available on NEWEA's YouTube channel!
This video was produced by NEWEA's Public Awareness Committee. The concept was inspired by an AIG commercial about a child’s perception of her mother’s job.
NEWEA members who work in various roles throughout the industry asked their children to describe what they do for work, why their job is important, and what clean water means to them. The children supply a variety of entertaining and insightful answers about their parents/grandparent's job as an essential water professional.

Complete the Sustainability Survey
|
|
The Sustainability Committee wants your input! Help us keep our conversation around sustainability relevant and relatable to YOU, NEWEA’s broad and diverse membership, by filling out this Sustainability Survey.
The Sustainability Committee conducted a similar survey of the NEWEA membership in 2019, and this is an update to capture our members’ current sustainability priorities. Our goal is to understand which topics related to sustainability are most relevant to our members, our region and our industry.
Using the survey results, we hope to tailor our committee, conference sessions and future webinars based upon what we hear from you, our members!
All submissions are due by Friday, September 16.

Opportunities to Participate in Wastewater Study
|
|
Verily, a life sciences company, is offering communities the opportunity to participate in a study monitoring levels of the virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), as well as other diseases, in wastewater.
WastewaterSCAN is a national expansion of the Sewer Coronavirus Alert Network (SCAN) and involves a partnership between scientists at Stanford University and Emory University, Verily, and local wastewater and public health officials to produce actionable data about COVID-19 and other pathogens.
WastewaterSCAN provides testing, sampling supplies and shipping free of charge to treatment plants. Facilities receive kits to sample wastewater solids three times a week and ship them for lab analysis at no cost. Verily will report results through their dashboard within 48 hours of receiving samples.
