Edinburgh Conference Wrap-Up
The 2019 Conference took place at the beautiful Dalmahoy Resort in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was truly a lovely setting for the Biennial Conference.
The conference was extremely well attended with over
166 full participants, including day guests and AWCCS and over 215 guests
on Foundation Night
! It was a fast-paced and very busy weekend with informative sessions for first-timers and repeat attendees, there was something for everyone. Workshops and General Sessions gave us the opportunity to learn about U.S. issues, UN Issues, FAWCO Youth, The FAWCO Foundation and so much more. Sunday afternoon the very deserving 2019 recipients of the Education Awards and Development Grants were announced. An enthusiastic congratulations to all the recipients!
Special thanks to all o
f you who gave so much of your time and talent in contribution to Foundation Night.
This year's Foundation Night festivities focused on the theme of Be True To Your School;. There was great reverence and loyalty shown this evening as just about everyone wore t-shirts, sweatshirts and uniforms reflecting their alma mater. It was a bright and colorful evening which included a costume contest, class photos, school fight songs, the Lucky Lunchbags (Aurora Silvestri) and, of course, both the Silent Auction (Carol-Lyn McKelvey and Julie Meyerson) and the Live Auction (Euan Emslie and Kathy McCarthy).
Throughout the evening, our guests truly displayed their generosity and spirit in support of The Foundation and its programs and for that, we are truly grateful.
Raffle ticket sales were brisk throughout the conference for both the spectacular "Tell Me A Story" Friendship Quilt and the Class-y Combo: a stunning Hermes Scarf and Backing Women Bag. Additionally, a lovely selection of Backing Women merchandise was available for purchase; thank you to Marie Bénédicte Luxem for bringing in some new and exciting products! All Backing Women proceeds went directly to the Target Project: Hope Beyond Displacement.
The fundraising figures for Foundation Night and all other weekend sales have not been finalized, however, the number revealed on Sunday afternoon was a very impressive $34,000. Additionally, the campaign-ending figures for our "Build the Bookstack" for the Target Project show that, to date, our clubs and individual members have raised an incredible $190,000 for Hope Beyond Displacement. Everyone should be so proud of the fundraising efforts to date.
We sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed not only the beautiful location but came away having gathered interesting and useful information, rekindled friendships and forged new ones.
Until we meet again - 2020 in Luxemburg!
