National Conference in Rochester Next Week Will Focus on Improving Healthcare for People with Disabilities

Hamden, CT, April 25, 2019 According to the U.S. General Accountability Office, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) continue to experience unnecessary deaths due to poor healthcare. The American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD) wants to change this.
 
The AADMD is teaming up with Golisano Foundation, the nation’s largest foundation dedicated to helping people with IDD, to address this situation at its annual 4-day conference to be held this year in Rochester, NY May 9-12.

The conference, One Voice for Inclusive Health , will bring together around 300 industry leaders and IDD professionals fro across the U.S. and Canada. Held at the Hyatt Regency Rochester with a Pre-Conference on Oral Health at the University of Rochester Eastman Institute for Oral Health, attendees will hear from top keynote speakers, meet companies paving the way for inclusive health, participate in more than 50 topical panel discussions, workshops and breakout sessions and network with medical professionals dedicated to inclusive healthcare.

  • Award-winning investigative journalist - Joseph Shapiro of NPR, whose recent series reported that people with intellectual disabilities are victims of some of the highest rates of sexual assault.

The conference will be offered for CME, CDE, and Nursing credit. Other professionals may receive certificates for CME or CDE and submit them to their professional bodies.  Often these are recognized for purposes of continuing education credit.  
Oral Health Pre-Conference
New this year - and included in registration - is the One Voice for Oral Health Pre-Conference. Held on May 9th, the day before the conference, participants will hear from medical, dental and industry professionals working together to end the healthcare disparities facing people with IDD (Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities). 

Attendees will be able to tour Eastman Institute for Oral Health ’s new state-of-the-art collaborative care center - where medical and dental students work together on patients with IDD.
