Summer 2019

Happy Summer!  Whether you find yourself swimming, snorkeling, hiking, biking, relaxing or exploring, we at The Foundation hope that you are having an inspiring and joyful summer.
We are already preparing for a very busy upcoming year.  The Education Award and Development Grant applications will be available in October, so if you're considering applying, please check out the 2019 watermarked applications available on the website.  Use these watermarked applications as a guide to get a head start. When the 2020 applications are published at the beginning of October, you'll only have to transfer your data.
Foundation Night plans for the 2020 Interim Meeting in Luxembourg are well underway.  We hope you will be able to join us next March!
Over the spring and summer, many clubs change officers.  Are you receiving this edition of NEWS at your club's FAWCO Rep or President's address but you are no longer in that position?  If things have changed hands in your club, please contact me at the email below and let me know who should be receiving the NEWS and at what email address. This is also a good time to update your Club Profile on the FAWCO website. Taking both of these measures will tremendously help us keep you up to date. We don't want anybody missing out on vital information!
Lastly, always remember: The FAWCO Foundation is YOUR Foundation. Please don't hesitate to contact anyone on the Board if you have ideas, recommendations or questions. We love to hear from you.
Enjoy Your Summer,

Education Awards and Development Grants
The 2020 Education Award and Development Grant applications will soon be available, however, preliminary information is already on the Foundation website. This includes eligibility requirements and terms of study for EAs and nomination requirements for DGs.

Do you have a child who might be interested in applying for an EA, a child or grandchild who is dual cultural, or are YOU interested in furthering your studies? Visit the Foundation website Education Awards page  to see how you or a family member might qualify for an EA.

Has your club been supporting a charity over the last year or years that needs ongoing support?  Are you interested in applying for a DG for a specific organization or project?  Visit the Foundation website Development Grants page for further information regarding the DGs.

Applications, deadlines and instructions will be posted by the first week of October.  With deadlines in early January, it's best to get applications in before the holiday rush!
How You Can Help The Foundation Offer More
Did you Know?
You can partially or completely fund a Development Grant(DG) or an Education Award(EA)?  If you and/or your club donate at least
$1,000, your names will appear in the title area as a partial sponsor. If you fund the entire grant or award, you can not only name it, but set the parameters for the applicants. What a legacy to create! You can sponsor or partially sponsor for as many years as you want or as a one-time event. Is your club celebrating an anniversary? Honoring long-standing members? What a great opportunity to sponsor an award and bring attention to the legacy of your club and its members.
The purpose of our Development Grants Program is to fund projects that can make an immediate impact and lead to success for the people that the projects support.
In 2019, there were a total of 29 applications but only seven awards were funded, many of which had been funded solely by the Foundation. It is truly a shame that so many projects had to go without support.
In 2020, The Foundation is reviving a grant to benefit a program local to the nominating club. So far, "In Your Neighborhood" has no sponsors -- you or your club could be the first!
Fostering peace through knowledge and the belief that education is essential to developing peace-loving attitudes in children are cornerstones of TFF Education Awards Program.
Here too, you can sponsor an EA partially or fully. Areas lacking in funding are special needs, technical/vocational education training, the arts and humanities. In 2019 in Edinburgh, we received 49 applications and were able to only offer nine awards. We would love to have your support in offering more EAs.
Where is your or your club's passion? Do you want to create a legacy for your club or for your family? Do you want to create an opportunity for girls to be educated? For women to learn a technical skill? If you fund it, you can shape it. Then you get to share it in the recipient's success and that is definitely something to be proud of!

 Quilts Galore!
Did you know that The Foundation is not the only member of the FAWCO family that raffles off a quilt every year?  FAUSA offers one as well!  The Foundation Friendship Quilt is raffled off at the annual conference while FAUSA raffles theirs at The Getaway, FAUSA's annual general meeting.  The 2019 Getaway will take place in October in Detroit.
This year's 74"x75"quilt   - Love Those Fans! - was made by Suzanne Wheeler and will be offered as a fundraiser to support their projects. We encourage you to help our sister organization in their fundraising goals.

FAWCO Member Clubs Support Local Charities

Uncertain about which of the many local projects that your club should support?

The Application for Charity Support is a guide to finding the right charity for your club.
The Foundation looked at the DG review materials and adapted it for clubs to use when they are looking to support a charity organization.
The application will help you to not only d efine a charity's mission and programs clearly, but also have measurable goals and concrete criteria to describe its achievements.
