|
|
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued an extended and expanded national emergency declaration to provide hours-of-service regulatory relief to commercial vehicle drivers transporting vaccines and emergency relief in response to the nationwide coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency.
FMCSA’s expanded and extended declaration provides for regulatory relief for commercial motor vehicle operations providing direct assistance supporting emergency relief efforts intended to meet immediate needs for:
- Vaccines, constituent products, and medical supplies and equipment including ancillary supplies/kits for the administration of vaccines, related to the prevention of COVID-19.
- Medical supplies and equipment related to the testing, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19.
- Supplies and equipment necessary for community safety, sanitation, and prevention of community transmission of COVID-19 such as masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, soap, and disinfectants.
- Livestock and livestock feed.
- Food, paper products, and other groceries for emergency restocking of distribution centers or stores.
To ensure continued safety on the nation’s roadways, the emergency declaration stipulates that when a driver is moving from emergency relief efforts to normal operations, the driver must receive a minimum of 10 hours off duty if the total time a driver operates conducting emergency relief efforts, or a combination of emergency relief and normal operations, equals 14 hours.

Nutrien Launches Carbon Program
|
|
Nutrien announced the launch of a comprehensive carbon program, providing end-to-end support for growers to drive improved sustainability and boost profitability. The company will partner directly with growers to plan, plant and track sustainable farming practices and improve carbon performance.
As part of the new program, Nutrien will provide sustainable products and solutions, year-round dedicated agronomic counsel and the industry’s leading digital platform to track and measure results. Additionally, the company will enable growers to monetize their improved carbon performance at the farm level by facilitating the purchase and sale of carbon credits from its grower customers to value-chain partners.
Working with select growers, Nutrien will design programs that facilitate climate smart products and sustainable practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, sequester carbon, and measure the resulting improvements in financial, productivity and environmental performance. The program will pilot across North America in 2021 with plans to further scale the to South America and Australia in the years ahead.

Pesticide Applicators Recertification Deadline; Online Services from IDALS Include Fertilizer, Grain, and Pesticide Applicators and Dealers
|
|
The December 31 deadline for renewal of pesticide certifications is approaching. Earlier this year, pesticide applicators who had expiring certifications in 2020 were given until the end of the year to renew due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the deadline less than a month away, certified applicators who have not already renewed should take advantage of options to maintain their certification.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) has two testing dates and sites available during the month of December with limited seats. There will be three in-person exam periods scheduled per site per day. Each time slot will have applicants scheduled, as determined by site location capacity with social distancing (6 ft). The exam sessions are 90 minutes in length. The first session will start at 9:00 AM. The second exam session will start at 11:00 AM. The third exam session will start at 1:00 PM. The end of the third session will be 2:30 PM.
Visit this link to sign up for testing. Advance registration is required.
Additional information about testing, including alternate testing sites, can be found here:

Also, as reported last month, a new portal has been launched for feed, fertilizer, and egg handling licensing in the state of Iowa. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) Feed and Fertilizer Bureau has moved the application, renewal, and reporting system online.
Anyone who needs to complete reporting for the January 1, 2021 deadline should use the portal. Also, applications and renewals should be handled through the portal as well.
