MORENO VALLEY, CA (February 4, 2026) -- The City of Moreno Valley has been awarded a grant from the Mayor’s Action Fund to expand its summer meals program, increasing access to free, nutritious food for children and families when school is out. The funding will support meal service in both congregate and non-congregate settings at local parks across the city.
The grant recognizes Moreno Valley’s commitment to addressing food insecurity through innovative, community-centered solutions. Expanding meals in parks and other accessible locations ensures the City can reach more families while creating welcoming spaces that support health, connection, and well-being.
“This grant reflects our commitment to making sure no child in Moreno Valley goes hungry,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “Expanding summer meals in our parks means meeting families where they are and providing real, practical support when it matters most. I’m proud of the work our City is doing to lead with compassion and results.”
As part of the award, Moreno Valley was invited to participate in a national mayoral roundtable during the Mayor’s Alliance Annual Meeting on January 28 in Washington, D.C. The discussion spotlighted proven strategies funded through the Mayor’s Action Fund that align with national priorities, including Summer EBT, family economic mobility, and improved SNAP access.
"Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and that begins with reliable access to nutritious food,” said Jennifer Silberman, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer at Dollar Tree. “Through our partnership with the Mayors Alliance and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, we are working to build more resilient, equitable communities — one meal, one city, and one child at a time."
“At a time of mounting food costs and economic uncertainty for families, the Mayors Action Fund is a vital investment in local, community-driven solutions,” said Aaron Goldstein, senior manager of Local Government Relations at Share Our Strength. “These grants help families and children access the resources they need to thrive.”
Mayor Cabrera joined fellow mayors from across the country, including invited participants from Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Central Falls, to share best practices and scalable solutions that strengthen families and communities nationwide. Additional details about the grant and program rollout will be shared in the coming weeks.
