DECEMBER, 2022
MISSISSAUGA, ON – Starting tomorrow, Friday, December 2, the long-awaited Mississauga Festival of Trees opens for what promises to be an entire week of holiday magic. This year, the Festival is pay-what-you-can!
For those unfamiliar with this second annual event, you’re in for a treat. All week long, you’re invited to take in the splendour of the historic Small Arms Inspection Building, which will be adorned with thousands of glittering lights for the holidays. Wander around unique art installations, woodpiles and creatively dressed trees, all while enjoying live entertainment courtesy of local musicians. The venue is fully licensed and wheelchair-accessible and includes a cozy outdoor seating area to gather with friends and family.
Aside from its magical setting, there are three distinct components to the Festival. First up is a bustling Artisan Market, happening the first weekend, December 2 to 4.
“This year’s Market will feature 42 local artisans and makers, each showcasing their unique handcrafted products,” says Natalie Scola, Program Coordinator.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the diversity of talent in the local community. Discover bespoke wood products, natural skincare, aromatic candles, cozy knitwear and more. This is the place to find that perfect, one-of-a-kind gift while supporting our talented makers.”
After the Artisan Market ends Sunday, December 4, a week of fun, interactive Workshops begin! Sign up for one (or more) of our creative Workshops, during which experienced local artisans will guide you to make your one-of-a-kind treasure.
“It’s your turn to learn! Create a work of art that you can enjoy at home or gift to someone special,” says Clarine Chan, Workshop Coordinator. “There are so many fun options, too: take part in a ballroom dancing session, enjoy a nature walk, make a lovely beaded bracelet… spots are filling up fast, though,” she counsels, “so make sure you reserve your spot online today at creativehub1352.ca.”
The Mississauga Festival of Trees culminates the weekend of Friday, December 9 to Sunday, December 11 with a much-anticipated Culinary Market featuring dozens of cuisines from around the world, all made with love right here in our community.
“This year's Culinary Markets boasts 37 indoor vendors catering to everyone's palate,” says Shannon Baldwin, Culinary Market Manager. “To be as inclusive as ever we have a huge array of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Many vendors are offering hot food as well as delicious items and gift baskets that are perfect for the holiday giving season.”
As for libations? “We’re fully licensed,” Shannon says, “so come prepared to enjoy the wares of local craft beer makers and distilleries.”
Whether you experience the Mississauga Festival of Trees once, twice, or multiple times, you’re guaranteed an immersive and entertaining destination this holiday season.
