STATEMENT OF
SENATE MAJORITY LEADER NORMENT
ON TODAY'S EVENTS IN CHARLOTTESVILLE
WILLIAMSBURG, VA, 12 AUGUST 2017 - Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) today issued the following statement regarding today's events in the City of Charlottesville:
"Today's events in Charlottesville have been horrifying and heartbreaking. The Senate Republican Caucus condemns the hate-speech and violence that has led to this tragedy and senseless loss of life. These actions are in no way reflective of the decent and respectful people of Virginia.
"It is time for a 'Commonwealth Call' for civility, racial respect, and tolerance for diversity of perspectives without resorting to violence.
"The Virginia State Police and local law enforcement put their lives on the line everyday to protect the rights of all. We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed as a result of today's violence, and to those recovering from their injuries.
"Tonight, the Commonwealth mourns today's events. Let us all pray that the good people of Virginia will not have to further endure such senseless tragedies."
