Ireland Reaffirms Podiatrists' Role in Diabetes Care

PM News has reported that The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has notified the Health Services Executive (HSE), which provides all of Ireland's public health services in hospitals and communities across the country, to reaffirm that podiatrists have a key role in diabetes management, rather than GPs. Saying that the latter are "not resourced to undertake chronic disease management," he said that podiatrists would now accept referrals for diabetics with "high-risk feet." NYCPM is proud to have an agreement with the National University of Ireland (Galway) that facilitates student exchanges for rotations that add valuable knowledge and experience in both directions.

New Student Housing to Offer More Options

Beginning in January 2015, NYCPM will offer a dedicated property near the College to house its students. Called Bridges, the building is located on Third Avenue and East 124th Street; it was a former student housing option that was discontinued due to rising costs, but a new lease with new owners has made this entire facility available to NYCPM. The building offers a fitness center, study rooms, on-site laundry and virtual doorman. According to Lisa K. Lee, Dean, Enrollment Management, "it is considered a luxury building with high-end kitchens and bathrooms." One hundred nine students will be able to live there, with several types of rooms available.  And according to Dean Lee, students will move in in phases starting at the end of December, with the hope of having all students interested in College housing to be moved in by August 2015.
