Bio for Rev. Anthony Stephens
The Rev. Anthony Stephens, Ph.D., J.D., LMHC:  In 2020 Anthony Stephens, PhD will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Although much of this time has been spent in parish ministry, his vocation has consistently focused on mental health and adjustment issues, and particularly the cultivation of resilience. He very much believes that we are “human becomings” rather than merely human beings. His integrated holistic approaches focus not only on mitigating trauma, loss and grief, but more so in promoting personal and systemic growth.
Stephens holds a PhD in human development from the University of Rochester, a juris doctorate from Pace University and some other degrees picked up along the way. He is licensed in New York State as a mental health counselor and an attorney at law.
Stephens serves as a chaplain in the New York Army National Guard, with the rank of major. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He is trained in critical incident stress management, combat medical ministry, and suicide prevention as an instructor.

Council Message
A tree died on our front lawn last year so Pete replaced it with a small cherry tree. The tree was purchased through a mail order catalog. When it arrived, Pete showed me the tree. OMG…it consisted of only roots and it appeared to be dead. I did not say anything to him because he was excited to receive it and proceeded to replace the old tree with the small cherry tree. Well, Pete planted this tree and babied it during the early summer months. Unfortunately, the deer came and had their breakfast, lunch, and dinner one night and it was chewed to pieces. However, the tree did not die. Today, it is flourishing and Pete put new fencing around the tree so the deer cannot reach the new growth. The tree reminded me of First and the Resurrection…HE/WE have not died but walk among you. HE IS RISEN and so shall FIRST!
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is being coordinated by our First Lutheran Shepherds, who will refer FELC parishioners to Pastor Arlene Wilhelm, Deacon Peter Slingerland, Rev. “As members of God’s family in mission together, we are part of the whole complicated, colorful spectrum of God’s creation in all its diversity, practicing our faith and putting it into action as we strive to make a difference, in big and small ways, through God’s grace.

We recognize that we are all called to be one body with many members, from infants to seniors. We welcome people of all races, ethnicities, shapes and sizes; of every marital status, political affiliation, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression; of different faith traditions, different physical, mental and emotional abilities, and those in recovery or struggling with addiction.

We know that no matter who you are, Jesus accepts you, and so do we.”
