The Cross
When Pastor Deborah retired one of her biggest tasks was to pack all her belonging from her home and her office at church. Then of course COVID put a slight wrinkle in most of the office packing, but with the assistants, via facetime on phones, all was packed, disbursed, filed for the next pastor and the boxes moved to storage.
Among the many items was a beautiful handmade wooden cross. I happened to be helping with the church documents and saw the cross on a shelf. Pastor Deborah said it was a gift from Frieda Popp, but she didn’t know much about it, but wanted it to stay with the church.
So, I spoke to Frieda to get some history. Turns out to be a simple story. The cross was carved and made by Tony Freisitzer, husband of Eleanore. They gave to George Popp in celebration of his 60th birthday many years ago. Then Frieda wanted Deborah to enjoy it.
Pastor Deborah’s request that it remain with the church will be honored and a special place will be found where it will hang in celebration of Tony, George, Frieda and Pastor Deborah for all of us to enjoy. Think of the talent and love this cross demonstrates and say a little prayer of thanks for the talent of all His people.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is being coordinated by our First Lutheran Shepherds, who will refer FELC parishioners to Pastor Arlene Wilhelm, Deacon Peter Slingerland, Rev. Jeff Koenig, or Pastor Chris Mietlowski, Assistant to the Bishop MNYS/ELCA in cases of serious pastoral emergency. If you are not sure who your Shepherd is, please contact:

“As members of God’s family in mission together, we are part of the whole complicated, colorful spectrum of God’s creation in all its diversity, practicing our faith and putting it into action as we strive to make a difference, in big and small ways, through God’s grace.

We recognize that we are all called to be one body with many members, from infants to seniors. We welcome people of all races, ethnicities, shapes and sizes; of every marital status, political affiliation, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression; of different faith traditions, different physical, mental and emotional abilities, and those in recovery or struggling with addiction.

We know that no matter who you are, Jesus accepts you, and so do we.”
