FRIENDLY REMINDERS
*** HIPAA VIOLATION ***
To All Caregivers,
It is a HIPAA VIOLATION to use forms with your clients name on it, for your other client. As a Caregiver it is your responsibility to safeguard your clients identification. There are numerous times where names of other clients are visible, while another clients name is written directly on the document (ex: new MD order w/MD signature, or other forms in other clients binder). This is a BIG violation, punishable by law. Fines can go up to $50,000!
WE APPRECIATE YOUR COOPERATION

TIPS ON HOW TO MARKET YOUR HOME
The Foster Home Program is an integral part of the home and community based setting. Legal placement of ICF clients can only be referred to licensed EARCH or FH setting only. With tight referrals coming in, there is also tight admission. Please remember it is the families choice of home and not the CM or CMA. All we're doing is referring your home if you have vacancy. The CMAs have the responsibility to assist in providing information and answering basic questions pertaining to your home as well as PCG/SCG qualifications. We can not endorse one over the other. Per Hawaii Administrative Rules, CMA need to give at least three homes to choose from. If a family comes to visit, be prepared to give them the "WOW" experience. First impression is lasting.
TIPS:
  1. Make sure the room/area is clean and tidy. Suitable for showing, with lots of lighting and adequate air flow.
  2. Bed should already be made (Please do not show an empty room without the basic appliances/furniture.)
  3. Show them the bathroom. A walk in shower is preferred, but if you have a regular bath tub, please be prepared to demonstrate how you are going to bathe a non-ambulatory individual.
  4. Keep the bathroom free of clutter.
  5. Keep the nursing care area (living room) with minimum decorations. Hallways must be free from clutter (ex: large jars or objects/furniture that can cause harm to an ambulatory client.
  6. Be prepared to charm the family and share information on what kinds of activities you can offer, different types of food you prepare, the availability of secondary caregivers when you're not around. It's also important to inform them about your experiences as a caregiver and the type of clients you currently care for/provide services to in your home.
In short, it's a time to showcase and sell your FH and the services you offer. Don't wait for questions to be asked, give the family the information they need. It's the first time for a family to view your home, maybe their first time to place their loved one in a FH setting. You as the PCG should make them feel at ease, share your knowledge and skills but don't be too overbearing, re-assure them that their loved one will be treated and cared for as a part of the family. Having said that, know the clients condition before the family arrives for their visit, read about their diagnosis and learn what you can do to help. Good luck on your next referral.
