Protecting Workers from Winter Cold

Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind can lead to cold stress, hypothermia and even frostbite. Check out the follow resources, hang them in your garage, and share with your co-workers to make sure you and your crew are protected from the cold this winter:

New T2 Sharing the Road Tech Brief
When we look at roadway safety much of the concern is for vehicle safety. However in many cases a vehicle must share the road with pedestrians and cyclists, and many local roads do not have adequate width for separate travel areas for all users. Due to this safety concern, Connecticut has introduced the "Share the Road" campaign. Read our new Tech Brief Sharing the Road for Motorists, Pedestrians and Cyclists to learn about the "Three Feet" Passing Law, and get tips on how to share the road when you're traveling by car, foot and bicycle.

FHWA Introduces Every Day Counts 3

The T2 Center, CT DOT, FHWA and CRCOG participated in the introduction of the new EDC (Every Day Counts) 3 Initiatives at the EDC Summit in Portland, Maine. Several of the initiatives, including Road Diets, Data Driven Safety Analysis and Smarter Work Zones have applicability for local transportation agencies so we will make sure to put together some technical briefings and articles to share with our CT Cities and Towns. In the meantime, visit the FHWA EDC 3 web page for more information on all the innovations.

Using Portable Generators Safely

With the winter months upon us, the possibility of power outages due to winter storms is increased. Portable generators are beneficial when the power is out, but they can be dangerous if not used properly. Read our T2 Safety Brief Using Portable Generators Safely to learn how to avoid potential hazards, and share with your team and residents.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for future Connecticut Crossroads topics, please feel free to email the designer Nicole Creaturo at [email protected].
