All Proceeds Support our Julio Martinez Memorial Fund
The Julio Martinez Memorial Fund (JMMF) Breakfast is an annual fundraising event that supports our integrated programs in the areas of addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery, as well as youth and family services.
This lifesaving work would not be possible without the trailblazing efforts of pioneers like Julio Martinez, whose invaluable contributions to the addiction treatment & recovery fields paved the way for current community-based treatment models used in New York State and around the nation.

The Legacy of Julio Martínez
A former opioid user, Mr. Martínez –whose family emigrated from Puerto Rico to New York City when he was two years old– went on to establish Phoenix House, a treatment facility operated by former substance users, which –today– is a national nonprofit rehabilitation organization operating 150 programs across ten states.
Mr. Martínez also founded Project Return, which developed a variety of programs to help people suffering from addiction and those in recovery, and served as the director of New York State's drug treatment programs. In 1998, he became the Executive Director of BASICS in the Bronx, one of the founding affiliates of Acacia Network.
Acacia Network’s Julio Martinez Memorial Fund (JMMF) Breakfast honors the legacy of Mr. Martínez, while recognizing that there is still much work to be done to address the continued impact of the opioid epidemic in our neighborhoods.

Gary P. Jenkins is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS), which oversees both the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Commissioner Jenkins' over 30-year history with the agency began with a front-line position in HRA, where he rose through the ranks to become Administrator of the Human Resources Administration and now Commissioner of DSS. We are thrilled to have Commissioner Jenkins join us as Keynote Speaker, as he shares his wisdom and insights with our guests.

José Alas is a former client of Acacia Network. He and his family experienced homelessness and came to us during a time of great need. Acacia found them a place at one of our transitional housing sites and provided them with the support services they needed to achieve stability and find permanent housing. Today, they live in Acacia Network's affordable housing development in East Harlem, Acacia Gardens. José joined us at the JMMF Breakfast in 2018 as he was embarking on his college journey, and we are proud to have him join us again to share updates on his progress!
