Join us on Thursday, October 12, 2023 (5-6 pm) for Japantown Past-Present-Future Online Forum, as we start to countdown to APEC SF23 in November!

Japanese culture has a long and storied history in San Francisco and in 2023 new trends are combining with classical traditions to present Japantown visitors with exciting and novel creations.

In this online forum, presented by Japan Center Garages, we will feature new and legacy Japantown small business entrepreneurs, hear their small business origin stories, and find out how they are innovating to help maintain Japantown as a vibrant SF visitor destination.

We will also be joined by a representative from the San Francisco-Osaka Sister City Association, and a representative from city of Osaka. In addition, we’ll be joined by Richard Hashimoto, President of the Japantown Merchants Association, and will present video messages from San Francisco Mayor's Office, and OSUMI Yo, Consul General of Japan in San Francisco.

Consul General Yo's predecessor, Yasushi Noguchi kindly provided a video highlighting the long-standing and important bonds that exist between Japan and San Francisco. Watch via the link below:

SF SISTER CITIES: OSAKA

In November San Francisco will be the host city for APEC SF23, where the theme will be Innovation, Sustainability, Inclusivity. The 21 APEC Member Economies account for nearly 50 percent of global trade. United Airlines is proud to showcase Osaka, Japan, in this first forum in our Sister Cities Series.

Our panelists will include Osaka representatives with deep roots, knowledge and love of their city, its history and culture, and San Francisco Japantown leaders who will share their connections and shared bonds with Osaka. There’ll be a music video showcasing Osaka + live polls and prize giveaways!
