January Spotlights Human Trafficking Awareness
Dallas Takes a #StandforHer!

This past January was National Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month. We are so proud of YOU, our community, for hosting awareness sessions, participating in Wear Blue Day on January 11th, and sharing our posts on your social media channels all month long. Here are just a few of the highlights:
For the first time ever, the Dallas skyline was lit up in blue on January 11th for National Wear Blue Day! Special thanks to the City of Dallas, and our partners at Reunion Tower, the Omni Dallas Hotel and the team at the Bank of America tower for showing that our city takes a #StandforHer
Corporate partners like Thomson Reuters, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ruthie's, and other NFNL supporters also took a stand against human trafficking by wearing blue.
NFNL CEO Bianca Davis presented at the Human Trafficking Awareness and Training hosted by Professional Women in Aviation at American Airlines in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security. Hundreds of employees attended and tuned in virtually, showing their commitment to learning more about ways the travel industry can engage in the fight against human trafficking.
NFNL attended a Human Trafficking Awareness Luncheon hosted by Councilmember Gay Donnell Willis, Chair of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking. As members of the North Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking, NFNL partners with city leaders, law enforcement, and other nonprofit agencies, collaborating on best practices and next steps in the fight against human trafficking in our community.
Stand for her all year long by purchasing a NFNL tee in either blue or plum. All proceeds support our restorative programs for survivors of sex trafficking.
February is Black History Month
Since 1976, every U.S. President has recognized February as Black History Month. While this is a month to spotlight the contributions and achievements of African Americans, we also take this time to recognize the disproportionate effect of social issues, like sex trafficking, on Black women and girls, specifically. Though making up just 13% of the population, Black women and girls make up 40% of all trafficking victims in the U.S.
At NFNL, 45% of our women and 50% of our girls are Black, mirroring the national data. Though we know that survivors of sex trafficking come from all backgrounds, we have also learned that minority groups are often more vulnerable and keep these additional challenges in mind as we serve all of our members.
