RFP Guidance


NFWF is committed to operating in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Executive Orders. We continuously monitor legal and regulatory developments to ensure our policies, procedures, and operations align with current federal directives. We encourage all applicants to do the same. 


The ability and extent to which NFWF is able to make awards is contingent upon receipt of funds from federal agencies and/or other funding partners. Final funding decisions will be made based on the applications received and the level and timing of funding received by NFWF.

Klamath Basin Forests and Watersheds Restoration 2026 Request for Proposals

Proposal Due Date: May 18, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time


The Klamath Basin Forests and Watersheds Restoration Program is seeking proposals for fish and wildlife conservation projects that restore aquatic, riparian, wetland, and forest habitats across the Klamath River Basin to improve water quality, water availability, and habitat conditions for native and anadromous fish. Learn more

Long Island Sound Futures Fund 2026 Request for Proposals

Proposal Due Date: May 19, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time


The Long Island Sound Futures Fund is seeking proposals for projects that restore and protect the water quality, habitats, wildlife and communities of Long Island Sound and its watershed. Funding will support projects ranging from habitat restoration and water quality improvements to community resilience and public engagement within eligible areas of the Sound. Learn more

Sustain Our Great Lakes 2026 Request for Proposals

Pre-Proposal Due Date: May 28, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time


The Sustain Our Great Lakes program is soliciting proposals to benefit fish, wildlife, habitat and water quality in the Great Lakes basin. The program will award grants in 2026 to improve and enhance: 1) stream and riparian habitat to benefit species and improve water quality 2) nature-based infrastructure in the Great Lakes Communities 3) and invasive species control to protect restored habitat and 4) activate restored habitats and natural areas. Learn more

Five Star Grant Program 2026 Request for Proposals

Proposal Due Date: June 4, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time


The Five Star grant program seeks proposals for conservation projects that improve water quality, restore and protect local habitats, and support the species they sustain through community‑based ecological improvements. Projects should engage local partners to expand access to nature, reduce environmental hazards, and/or build long‑term stewardship through outreach, education, and hands‑on implementation. Learn more

Southeast Aquatics Fund 2026 Request for Proposals

Proposal Due Date: July 1, 2026 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time


The Southeast Aquatics Fund seeks proposals to conserve aquatic habitat in the southeastern United States. Funds from this program will support projects that improve water quality, water quantity, and instream and riparian conditions. In select geographies, funding is also available to support aquatic connectivity, species recovery, monitoring, and planning. Learn more

Central Appalachia Habitat Stewardship Fund 2026 Request for Proposals
