Earlier month, over 500,000 homes and apartments have been NGBS Green Certified!

The project that helped NGBS Green reach this point was Bluebird Supportive Housing, a low-income housing tax credit project in Boulder, Colorado that provides permanent supportive housing to those experiencing homelessness. The NGBS Green Verifier on the project was Sarah Hong, PE, Energy Project Manager for Group14 Engineering, PBC and the developer was Element Properties. See here for the case study!

The federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program requires each state agency that allocates tax credits, generally called a housing finance agency, to have a Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP). The QAP sets out the state's eligibility priorities and criteria for awarding federal tax credits to housing properties. | |
The following states have or will revise their Qualified Allocation Plans (QAP) for the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. The summaries below indicate if NGBS Green certification is incentivized and provide information on how to submit comments or stay informed. Alabama
The Alabama Housing Finance Authority is accepting comments on its proposed 2025-2026 QAP. Comments are due by 5pm CT on March 8th and can be submitted through this form.

North Dakota
The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) is holding a public hearing on its proposed 2025 QAP on March 5TH at 10 AM CT. The public hearing will be held in-person at the NDHFA Board Room and virtually via Teams. Written comments are also being accepted through March 1ST at 5 PM CT to hfainfo@nd.gov.

Cosmo Cabinets
Kitchen and Bath Cabinets
Cosmo Cabinets specializes in frameless full-access kitchen and bath cabinets featuring shaker and slab doors with a waterproof leg system most suited for multifamily projects. They service the needs of multifamily, senior living, and student housing.
Cosmo cabinets are certified in accordance with ANSI/KCMA A161.1 performance standards. By using this Green Certified Product, projects can earn points for practice 602.1.15 Kitchen and Vanity Cabinets.

SmartBase Hybrid
Recycled Paving Sub-base and Engineered Materials
SmartBase is a local substitute for aggregate in roads. The Maryland SmartSite recycling facility produces renewable engineered fills, paving sub-base, and paving base materials, which are diverted from the waste stream.
SmartBase Hybrid is 100% recycled and may be used as minor system as a sub-base supporting structure in driveways, sidewalks, and if approved, under the foundation. Projects using SmartBase Hybrid can earn points under 604.1 Recycled Content and 610.1.2.1 Product LCA. This Green Certified Product can also earn points towards the Land Development Certification under practice 403.10 Existing and Recycled Materials.
