Webinar: Girls STEAM Ahead with NASA Resources in Action

The Girls STEAM Ahead with NASA program, part of NASA’s Universe of Learning, provides resources and experiences that enable youth, families, and lifelong learners to explore fundamental questions in astrophysics, experience how science is done, and discover the universe for themselves. Registrants will hear directly from this year’s 2023 GSAWN stipend recipients who are using these free resources and will learn ways to implement in their own programs.

Youth Advisory Board Application Deadline Extended
The application deadline to join the NGCP Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for the 2023-2024 school year has been extended until October 14, 2023. The YAB is a collective of high school students from diverse regions and backgrounds who have a passion for STEM. The YAB's mission is to provide input on current NGCP initiatives and inform the future direction of NGCP.

October is #GirlsLeadSTEM Month
NGCP is thrilled to be a part of #GirlsLeadSTEM, a multi-sector effort to elevate the diverse voices of young women and girls in STEM, in partnership with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, Intel Corporation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies' IF/THEN® Initiative, STEM Next Opportunity Fund, Million Girls Moonshot, and Techbridge Girls. Throughout October, #GirsLeadSTEM will lead a social media campaign to shine a light on the diversity of organizations, approaches, and girls paving the way for a sustained pathway in STEM.

International Day of the Girl
October 11, 2023 is the International Day of the Girl (IDG), which aims to promote girls' rights worldwide. Unfortunately, we are currently witnessing a number of movements that seek to limit the rights of girls and women and reverse progress towards gender equality. Girls are particularly affected by these negative developments. From October 2023 to October 2024, UNICEF is partnering with governments and civil society organizations to take action and address this issue. Learn more about these efforts.

TECHNOLOchicas is a national initiative of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) and Televisa Foundation, aimed at raising awareness among young Latinas and their families about opportunities and careers in technology.

Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s 2023 Youth Awards
Applications for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s (HHF) 2023 Youth Awards educational grants are now open. Hispanic students who have made commendable achievements in the classroom and demonstrated excellence across various educational categories are eligible to receive grants worth up to $4,000 to start their higher education journey or to bring their community-based projects to fruition. Apply by November 13, 2023.

New Girls STEAM Ahead with NASA (GSAWN) Resources
Girls and their families will embark on a cosmic journey as they learn about the Life Cycle of Stars. Create your own GSAWN event with activities from the new recipe about stars from the GSAWN Program Cookbook. Participants will color the stages of a star’s life in a flipbook, create a stylish bookmark that follows a star’s life phases, and uncover the secret lives of stars with a scavenger hunt.
