One historic New Hampshire homestead offers an experiential cure-all
TAMWORTH VILLAGE, NH, JUNE 6, 2018  -- Getting a jump on the official start of summer, Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village kicks off its summer schedule on Saturday, June 16, offering a lineup of interactive, daily experiences that will continue Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., until Labor Day Weekend. On the same day, as a special thank you to New Hampshire residents for their support, the museum is offering free admission to those who present proof of NH residence when checking in. This is the third year the museum has held New Hampshire Appreciation Day.

Now celebrating its twenty-second year, Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm has been named a “2018 New England Best” by Yankee Magazine, under the category of “Best Historical Experience in New Hampshire.” The museum’s unique summer schedule offers visitors of all ages many ways to engage with the history of father and son country doctors, Doctor Edwin Remick (1866–1935) and Doctor Edwin “Doc” Crafts Remick (1903–1993), and with New England’s agricultural past and current practices.

“We were thrilled to receive the recognition from Yankee Magazine,” said marketing director Dawne Gilpatrick. “Education is a part of all we do and not only during the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, but year-round, our goal is to provide visitors and families with many ways to unplug and enjoy an engaging, meaningful experience, together.”

Beginning in mid-June, daily, scheduled summer activities start at 10:30 a.m., when visitors can learn about and try their hand at milking a goat. A guided tour of the Remick family home, the Captain Enoch Remick House, follows at 11 a.m . Built in 1808, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes the medical office once shared by the Doctors Remick, among other historical features. Visitors who prefer a self-led tour may glimpse first-floor areas of the house from 12–2 p.m.

Farm chores are a daily highlight at 2:30 p.m., when farm animal meet and greets take place and visitors may assist with light farm chores, such as collecting eggs from the chicken coops and feeding the pigs. The final scheduled activity of the day is at 3 p.m., when participants receive an introduction to the museum’s dairy cows and the milking process, including a machine milking demonstration in Doc Remick’s historic Hillsdale Farm cattle barn.

Admission on New Hampshire Appreciation Day is free for NH residents (please provide proof of year-round residence when checking in) and all children ages 4 and under, $5.00 for non-residents. Admission for the summertime activities schedule is $5, free for children ages 4 and under.

Throughout the summer, the museum is holding additional events, such as Farm Breakfast and Chores on selected Wednesdays, Herbal DIY and Canning 101 workshops on Saturdays, and Daily Discoveries and a Remick Apprentice program for kids.
