WELCOME TO 2026!

To all our Dedicated Supporters,

As we ring in the new year, National Health Foundation remains committed to delivering top-level care by focusing on the programs and the services that improve the health and lives of the communities we serve.

While the beginning of 2026 saw many uncertainties, NHF is continuing its commitment to double down on our trauma-informed recuperative care model and maintain our community-led health programs, ensuring that every individual we serve has a year filled with stability and mindful care. We are incredibly grateful for the continued dedication of our funders, partners, board, and staff, whose collective efforts turn NHF's vision of health equity into a reality.

Together, we look forward to a year of transformative impact and strengthened resilience across all the neighborhoods we call home.

Sincerely,

Dr. Felita Jones

Amy's Journey to Success

Amy first came to NHF’s Ventura Recuperative Care site with no sheltered place to go and significant obstacles to overcome, despite having a full-time job at a local distribution center. Amy, however, remained resilient and rose to the occasion to help herself heal, learn, and grow. With support of intensive case management delivered by our Housing Navigation team and time in our Rapid Rehousing Program, Amy was successfully housed and now has her own private space. Today, Amy learned how to manage her time, budget wisely, and have the ability to continue her journey with confidence. This was made possible with the help of an amazing team at NHF that was willing to go the extra mile.

Congratulations Amy, and cheers to Your Future!

Community Initiatives

January's CalFresh Healthy Living Food Distribution was a success!

Photo: CalFresh Healthy Living Team

This month, NHF's team of promotores set up shop in the Pico-Union community, early in the morning to assemble over 100 bags of fresh vegetables and food staples. Even though this number may not seem like much, to communities that may be impacted by the rising cost of groceries, NHF (in partnership with CalFresh) is a welcome lifeline. We are grateful for the opportunity to help the communities we serve by bringing this MUCH needed resource, that provides and promotes healthy living, to the community.

Being a Clean California Community means NHF joins the crew of amazing communities who are committed to acting with sustainability to ensure a clean, green, and vibrant community. Way to go team!

Funder Support

Shout Out to Cedars-Sinai for choosing NHF as the recipient of a generous grant! This grant gives NHF the ability to bring new and improved wellness activities, such as Zumba and mobility stretching, to our Arleta recuperative care site guests. This grant also provides the means to onboard more kitchen staff, allowing for an increase and improvement in medically tailored meals to be prepared for those in need. Thank you for your continued support we are so excited for this collaboration.

NHF is honored to receive an award from Brilliant Corners Interim Housing Accessibility Improvement Fund. This grant will ensure ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance and accessibility at our Pico-Union and Glendale Recuperative Care locations. These much-needed updates will help us better serve people with physical disabilities, ensuring they are comfortable and safe when stay with NHF.

NHF would like to extend a huge thank you to the amazing team at Lockton Insurance Brokers, LLC's Los Angeles Office, for their amazing donation of over 300 pounds of food and $400 in donations for our monthly food distributions! With this support, NHF was able to provide over 100 additional families with holiday meals and food items during our January food drives.

Did you know you can help NHF just by eating pizza with your friends?

On December 17, 2025,NHF was proud to partner with local California Pizza Kitchen's to host a day of fun and food. Across Ventura and Los Angeles County, 3 CPK locations partnered with NHF to donate 20% of all proceeds to our mission. On that day, Juan, manager of the DTLA CPK, came to introduce himself to staff at our table and was very supportive of our work and informed us that they were always willing to partner in fundraising events up to 3 times per month! That is AMAZING given that very few restaurants even offer partnered fundraising and NHF will definitely continue to FUNdRaise with CPK in 2026!

Stay tuned for more FUNdRaisers and remember to bring your friends and families to support!

NHF would like to extend a HUGE Thank You to the Kiwanis Club of Temple City for their generous donation of 20 winter coats, children's clothes, and toys. Your help in providing warmth in cold weather, outfits for the little ones, and the opportunity for engagement and fun during rainy days goes a long way in brightening the lives of those in the communities we serve.

Thank you for your continued support.

Legislative Corner

NHF presents the Legislative Corner, monthly legislative updates explaining how you and your community may be impacted by ongoing changes. NHF's goal remains to operate with transparency and keep our communities informed.

Local, state, and federal policy changes are creating significant challenges for local residents. Last year’s federal cuts to safety-net programs under H.R.1 and continued declining tax revenues have reduced benefits and made services harder to access for NHF and the communities we serve. A recent example of this effect was the elimination of SNAP-Ed funding. For more than 10 years, NHF used these funds to reach tens of thousands of households and provide critical food resources. Although funding is set to expire on March 31, 2026, we are grateful to the State for allowing carryover funds and to LA County’s Department of Public Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Program for its continued support.

Upcoming funding cuts on the immediate horizon indicate a significant change, threatening our ability to provide monthly food distributions, nutrition classes, and other food access services. In this regard, we applaud the LA County Board of Supervisors for approving supplemental funding through the Care First Community Investment program in helping to sustain these invaluable services. Despite ongoing funding shifts, NHF remains firmly committed to addressing food insecurity in our communities through our dedicated team and funding partners.
