Natalie Maxwell Joins NHLP Team
NHLP is thrilled to welcome Natalie N. Maxwell to the National Housing Law Project as a senior staff attorney!

Natalie brings to the team deep expertise on affordable housing preservation, disaster housing recovery, fair housing, reentry, and rural housing. Prior to joining NHLP, Natalie spent 14 years in the Florida legal aid delivery system advocating for housing rights of low-income tenants, vulnerable populations and communities of color. She worked at both Legal Services Corporation (LSC) programs and non-LSC programs, where she engaged in direct representation, community lawyering, impact litigation, and policy advocacy at the local and state levels. Most recently, Natalie worked as the Director of Advocacy and Litigation at Three Rivers Legal Services developing and implementing strategic planning for housing, family law, special education, and public benefits litigation in state and federal court, including appeals.

From 2016 to 2020, Natalie served as the co-chair of the Florida Legal Services Housing Umbrella Group (HUG), a statewide organization of legal services housing advocates. In that role, she engaged in policy advocacy before state and federal agencies on affordable housing, fair housing, and disaster housing recovery on behalf of the organization and client communities. She also worked on amicus briefs in coordination with HUG members on affordable housing and fair housing issues.

She began her legal career at Southern Legal Counsel as a 2005 Equal Justice Works Fellow, developing and engaging in legal strategies to increase access to accessible and affordable housing for low-income Floridians with disabilities. She is a graduate of the University of Florida and earned her law degree from the American University, Washington College of Law.

Natalie will contribute to and grow NHLP's expertise in disaster housing, fair housing, rural housing, and other NHLP initiatives.
