Legislative Update & Action Alerts
The Trump Administration CMS announced its FINAL RULE on Section 1557 change to the Affordable Care Act  Data Collection to decrease discrimination. NHMA and several health equity partners and coalitions sent in comments against this rolling back of the Affordable Care Act anti-discrimination topics and enforcement by the Office of Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services that we feel will decrease access to health care for LGBTQ and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and consumers.

NHMA released a statement against the Trump Administration Department of Homeland Security ICE that mandated this week that all foreign students in universities and colleges be deported if they do not enroll in in-person instruction for the Fall Semester in the United States. NHMA does not feel it is fair to take back the educational opportunity for nonimmigrants who are trying to improve their educational growth in a variety of biomedical, life science, and research related careers.

The National Medical Association (NMA) invites you to participate in a brief survey to better understand the diversity of physician experiences, barriers, and supports during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this survey is to understand the experiences of physicians who are members of minoritized and/or marginalized demographic groups (across race/ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability status). NMA aims to create a research base that sheds light on COVID-19 service delivery barriers and opportunities, patient barriers and opportunities, experiences with discrimination, and physician’s overall stress and well-being.

NMA has  extended the deadline for this important survey  in order to gather important and necessary perspective, so you are invited to participate as soon as possible.

At this time, NMA is specifically looking to supplement their understanding of the Black/African-American, Latinx, American Indian/Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander physician experiences. Additionally, NMA wants to hear from physicians of diverse gender identities to share their experiences.
This assessment will take approximately 10-15 minutes. This survey has been until July 20th, 2020 to allow time for additional responses.
Take the survey  here  or copy and paste the URL below into your internet browser:  https://survey.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cCOtzYi2kX6iw3X.
