2023 National Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship - Call for Applications


The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) is thrilled to announce that applications for the NHHF Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship are NOW OPEN and due by September 15, 2023!


NHHF continues to support the next generation of health professionals with mentorship and scholarship awards of up to $5,000 annually for 4 years, as well as individual awards of $2,000 per year. NHMA has had an IMG Task Force within the Council of Residents and Fellows since 2017 and would like your leadership to further develop our efforts to increase the number of Latino physicians for our communities in the US. We plan to convene a meeting within a month.

Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Public Health Workforce Program

Listening Sessions Invitation


The National Hispanic Health Foundation invites you to participate in our virtual listening sessions on the recruitment and retention of a diverse public health workforce. This program seeks is to increase awareness of the need for diversity in public health and to create best practices/tools for achieving it.


  • Group 1 (Hispanic/Latine, Black, or Indigenous public health students or alumni): June 27 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. ET


  • Group 2 (Deans, Faculty, or Admission Officers at a minority-serving institution): July 10 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. ET


  • Group 3 (Public Health Officers or HR Professionals): July 12 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. ET


All participants must work or reside in the following states: AL, AZ, AR, CA, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NV, NM, NC, OK, SC, TN, and TX

NHMA President's Corner

June 2023 Legislative Update


The national office continues to work diligently to monitor federal, state, and local policy developments, including legislative and regulatory changes, to advocate initiatives representing the interests of our 50,000 licensed Hispanic physicians in the United States.


We maintain weekly communication with strategic national partners to empower Hispanic physicians to be leaders who will help eliminate health disparities and improve the health of Hispanics in the United States, including Washington DC and Puerto Rico.


Announcements

Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson invited Dr. Elena Rios to receive an honorary degree during their School of Medicine’s commencement ceremony on Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00 pm in Detroit, MI. The Wayne State University School of Medicine has prepared students to be health care leaders and advocates who go on to change the world since 1868. GlobalMindED, an inclusive success network dedicated to closing the equity gap for students, has recognized NHMA’s Dr. Elena Rios as their 2023 Inclusive Leader Award Winner for Health & Wellness, for dedicating her life to championing health equity and empowering underserved communities. The 2023 GlobalMindED Conference took place at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel (Denver, CO) from June 7-9, 2023.
