VALUES DEFINED BY WHOM?: A Grand Rounds Presentation
In the United States, how medical care is paid for affects how it is provided. The diverse
stakeholders in the American healthcare system define “value” differently. Various payment models for health care can adversely impact the value of the care patients receive.
This two-part Grand Rounds presentation and accompanying case studies from the Movement Is Life coalition discuss what really matters to patients from disadvantaged populations when they interact with the healthcare system, and how providers can add value to enhance their patient-provider encounters. It also provides a brief overview of healthcare payment policies and how they may impact care.
