Community Outreach

NHN Friday Picnic was a success!!
On Friday, July 12, 2019, NHN guests were invited to a Friday Picnic to celebrate summer. A great menu including hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, Wood-fired Pizzas, lemonade, iced tea, and watermelon was served.

Founder and CEO, Garry Friend shared a personal observation about the afternoon:

" Did you see what I see? I saw a mother & her crippled son come all the way from Main Street Madison Heights (over 3 miles) and boy, did they eat a lot of the food. I saw and heard a young teenage boy, from a family of six, tell how he tried everything and was totally full. I saw some of our clients which come either Wednesday or Thursday come to eat a second time with us. I saw two eat a “FULL” plate twice. Finally, I saw and talked with a homeless man ( brought by a client) who enjoyed a lot of good food.
Hunger in Amherst is real. Perhaps the message is to feed more than just twice a week? Maybe set up in different locations…where we can establish a kitchen & serving area? We must turn to God for wisdom & volunteers.

Remember Matthew 9:37 & 38,
'The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into the fields.'"

NHN would like to thank Chuck Brown of Straight Off the Grill for the use of his large grill. Also, a huge thanks to Jimmy Price for the use of his building, grounds and Wood-Fired Oven from which tantalizing artisan pizzas were created! Thanks to so many of our volunteers for serving our guests!!!
