On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, WSET News in Lynchburg visited our MHBC Food Kitchen to share with the community a milestone for NHN. We have now served over 10,000 meals!! We ask for your prayers for guidance in creating programs that effectively address the needs and minister to those we serve.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors appreciates our community for the many ways they support our mission. A shout out to Briar Patch for baking the delicious hams enjoyed by guests in January. We are so grateful to El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant in Amherst for regularly providing entrees for our Ascension Food Kitchen. Next time your family is in El Mariachi, please remember to thank them for their partnership with NHN! Our friends at Car Max now have a place on our Special Wall of Recognition. Thanks for all you do for NHN!

Lenten Season 2019 NHN would like to thank Madison Heights Baptist Church and the Kitchen Committee for inviting our guests to share in the Lenten Service and the meal that followed on Wednesday, March 20. We are so thankful for Madison Heights Baptist Church and their willingness to allow NHN to serve meals in the Fellowship Hall each Wednesday. NHN could not do it without them!

Volunteer Opportunities

Individuals Food Kitchens & Warehouse sign up - Do you have 1 morning a month that you would like to volunteer somewhere? NHN has spots available in our Madison Heights and Amherst Food Kitchens. If you have a Wednesday or Thursday open just once a month, we can use your help. Kitchen volunteers work from 9:00 -1:00 and servers from 10:00 - 1:00. We serve a hot meal each Wednesday at MHBC Food Kitchen & a hot meal each Thursday at Ascension Episcopal Church in Amherst. Let's work together to help our community and neighbors! Food Pantry Guest Pick up Bake desserts for Food Kitchens   YOUTH GROUPS & CHURCH GROUPS   Can Drive Follow up - sorting and shelving cans Food Pantry Cart Runners (should be at least 16 or accompanied by an adult if under 16). Cleaning & stocking post-distribution day. Could be scheduled on Saturday or on the following Monday. Volunteer Spotlight

We would like to recognize volunteer, Tommy Clements for our March volunteer spotlight. A lifetime Amherst County resident and retired from General Electric, Tommy does double duty in the Warehouse and Food Kitchens. On Warehouse days, he is our USDA Expert, working so efficiently and graciously with our shoppers. We salute you, Tommy!
