Recently, MHBC volunteers were separating a case of frozen biscuits to make storage and preparation more efficient. The results of each volunteer's approach to the task reveals the unique qualities each person adds to the mission fabric of NHN.

As the numbers continue to increase ( 127 served in the Food Pantry on January 19 !!), the need for additional volunteers is growing.

There is a vacancy waiting to be filled by YOU!

  • NHN Food Kitchen MHBC would like to thank the United Cherokee Tribe of Virginia for their donation of a Wet Swiffer. This will help us in our clean up at the end of our meals. Thanks for thinking of us.
  • A big shout out to Tiny's Catering. Thank you so much for cooking the 2 huge pieces of pork for our NHN Food Kitchens and turning it into your wonderful BBQ. We will be planning some delicious BBQ for our Ascension and MHBC Food Kitchens in the future.

Volunteer Spotlight

We would like to recognize volunteers, Peggy Friend and Ellen Saunders for our January volunteer spotlight. Both lifetime Amherst County residents, they have committed their "retirement" years to serving others whether it's NHN, their churches, families, or other worthy organizations. Peggy and Ellen coordinate the Ascension and MHBC food kitchens respectively which involves a great deal of paperwork, inventory rotation, phone calls, menu planning, coordinating large scale food preparation and food donation to the kitchens - just some of the responsibilities to keep the kitchen sites operating smoothly. In addition, these ladies are involved in various other NHN activities, as well. We are so thankful for all they do. We salute you, Peggy and Ellen!!
