Updates from NHP on the Federal Government Shutdown, 11/1/2025
A federal government shutdown began last month on October 1. As this shutdown continues, we would like to provide updates as we find out. This shutdown will have no impact on Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program). Members are still able to access care and their full benefits. Providers will continue to be paid for the services they provide to our members.
The shutdown will begin impacting individuals and families that receive SNAP food assistance benefits starting November 1st due to the federal pause of November SNAP benefits. To lessen this impact, Colorado has stepped up to make sure families and individuals will continue to have access to food and nutrition support.
In Colorado, WIC benefits will continue for November. The state will be using $7.5 million of already approved funding to continue WIC benefits. Additionally, Colorado food banks and pantries will receive $10 million in emergency funds to meet the high demand due to the federal pause of November SNAP benefits. To learn more about the steps Colorado is taking and for updates visit the Governor's Office website here.
| | Five food banks serve geographic regions across the state. Their services range depending on region and community need. The 5 food banks above also partner with local non-profit food agencies to offer additional food and support through soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, older adult and youth programs, and other organizations that work to feed people facing hunger.
