This scholarship is open to outstanding full-time, U.S.-based pharmacy students with documented leadership experience who are committed to working in the Latino community. Uplift future Hispanic pharmacists through mentorship! NHPA is urgently looking for licensed pharmacists to serve as mentors! Pharmacy students will be connected with a mentor through their NHPA Student Chapters to meet at least twice throughout the school year. If you are interested in giving back to the Hispanic community through mentorship, please reach out at nhhf@nhmafoundation.org.

NHPA is excited to announce our newest member of the NHPA Board of Directors, Marco Antonio Vidaurri, PharmD! Dr. Vidaurri, NHPA's new Secretary-Historian, is a clinical pharmacist with over 13 years of successful experience in various pharmacy environments. His passion for Public Health and assisting patients better understand their medications began when he graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word – Feik School of Pharmacy in 2010.

St. John Fisher NHPA Student Chapter
St. John Fisher held an interactive seminar discussion on April 19th, "All Things Diabetes," with the adult group from Centro de Oro (via IBERO agency) in Rochester, NY. The participants were so engaged and had countless questions relating to diabetes from medications, types of DM regimens involving both non-insulin and insulin treatments, diabetes target goals, impact of lifestyle, diabetes complications, hypo and hyperglycemia and medication expectations. We were able to identify and correct some cases where patients were not taking their medicines correctly. Several are on multiple medications and would benefit from pillboxes and medication education seminar in the near future!

University of Houston NHPA Student Chapter
The NHPA student chapter at University of Houston College of Pharmacy (UHCOP) recently had the opportunity to provide blood pressure and blood sugar screenings to a primarily Hispanic and underserved patient population at the Ripley House community resource health fair in Houston, Texas. Our members also provided diabetes risk assessments and educated on a heart healthy diet for prevention of cardiovascular diseases to this primarily Spanish-speaking patient population.

Esteemed NHPA Members,
I want to personally thank everyone who attended our 5th Annual NHPA Conference on March 25th, 2023 in beautiful Arizona. It was such a pleasure to host this conference and connect with so many of you. I would like to express my appreciation to all organizers and speakers, especially our keynote speaker, Dr. Sandra Leal for her inspiring words. I look forward to all upcoming events!
- As we move forward, my question for all NHPA Members, NHPA Chapters, and NHPA Leaders is: How will you contribute to closing that gap of qualified Spanish-speaking pharmacy talent in our Hispanic/Latino communities? Hispanics make up the largest ethnic minority group in the United States but only 4.5% of pharmacists across the country are Hispanic and we are here to change that statistic. Together, we can make a difference!
