Dear NHSIMB Families,

Week one of band camp is in the books, and by all accounts it was a tremendously successful one. The marching band show opener is well underway, and the band is exceeding the goals set by the staff at the beginning of the week. Great work, everyone!

Thank you so much to the army of parents helping the band including stand helper chairs Barb Gillooly and Ellen Greenberg with their team of parent volunteers, Rich Saxton and the team of photographers and videographers filming the events, Ann McCormick and all of the parents who helped fill water bottles and prepare the dinners throughout band camp and last but certainly not least, my fellow members of the board chipping in at all hours to keep the process moving without a hitch.

The BBQ was an absolute success! It was was great to see so many families enjoying good food and company. Huge shout-out to our BBQ chairs Beth Sinagoga and Jen Hunt and their merry band of parent volunteers who organized, prepared, and cleaned up such a yummy event.

Thank you to Mr. Lipton and staff for also inviting the parents to see the show on parent preview night. It was great to see so many families in the stands enjoying our first glimpses of the fantastic show!!

As we look to the week ahead, we wish our students the best first days of the new school year. We have evening rehearsals plus our first away game on Friday the 31st.

Game Day Routines: Be Prepared!

Your marching band student will need to ensure they have everything needed for the game including the black marching band shirt, plain black tall socks, Dinkles, hair ties/clips, thin nylon shorts, clean black gloves and "street clothes." Street clothes should always be brought to every football game. Street clothes = black band shirt, blue jeans, sneakers. If Mr. Lipton decides kids are to wear their street clothes, they need to be prepared.  Please note that "Jeans" = clean, unripped jeans (no holes); not leggings, not khakis, not black pants.

Dinner: students also need to arrange to have dinner on game nights (both home and away). Parents can bring dinner to the kids and they can eat before report time, or they can bring extra food in the morning for their dinner, or some kids arrange to have food delivered to NHS. Freshman students can talk to the upperclassmen to get suggestions.

New Online Event Calendar

NHSIMB is proud to launch a new online calendar where you can see all music activities and events for the year. To see the calendar, visit this link: NHSIMB Google Calendar . To add these events to your personal Google calendar, click the "Plus" sign at the bottom right of the screen.

If you would like to subscribe and add this calendar to your own smart phone or calendar program, use this link: Subscribe to NHSIMB Calendar . Our online calendar will always be up to date with report times, activity dates, and concerts. Any time a change is made, we will let you know via newsletter but we will also update it on the Google calendar so you can trust that what's there is the most accurate calendar information we have.

IMPORTANT Calendar Updates:

  • The Council Rock Competition was left off of the original printed calendar that was sent home. That show will take place Saturday, Oct 13 (Time TBD). Marching band students will stay through after the Bensalem football game (1:00 PM that day).
  • The Marching Band rehearsal originally scheduled for Oct 31 has been moved to Thursday, November 1 from 6:00-9:00 PM.

Fundraisers

BRUSTERS! Tomorrow Night!

Our first of several "restaurant nights" will be tomorrow, August 27. Come to Brusters Ice Cream at 1520 Brownsville Rd. in Trevose. NHSIMB will receive 15% of all sales between 7:00-9:00 PM. No flier required! Just show up, bring family, friends, your friends' friends, and all of their families!

FUNDRAISING GUIDE

Every music student should now have received this guide to fundraising . It gives suggestions on how you can fund your entire annual commitment plus the cost of the music trip using the extensive fundraising opportunities available to you this year. If you have questions about fundraisers throughout the year, contact Vice President Jen Hunt ( jhuntfred@verizon.net , 215-715-4437)

RAFFLE

Our Neshaminy-themed Cornhole raffle was a huge success! If you didn't win, though, don't worry...we will be raffling ANOTHER Cornhole set at our annual Kaleidoscope of Bands competition on October 27. Tickets will be available soon, so stay tuned!

GERTRUDE HAWK CANDY SALES

Gertrude Hawk Candy Bars are here! These are sold in full cases of 48 bars per case. Cases cost $48.00 and students earn $18.20 towards their account per case.

Cell: 267-697-9948
Home: 215-396-2449

Sue den Outer (Langhorne)
Cell: 215-962-2439

Pay for candy at the time of pick up. Checks should be made payable to NHSIMB. Be sure to write “Candy Bars" and your student's name on the memo line of the check, to ensure your student gets credit. Cash is ok, but personal checks are preferred.

FOOTBALL MANIA

Football Mania cards are available through September 6. Sharon Lawson ( sharonlawson268@gmail.com , 215-410-2446) is coordinating so contact her if you need cards.

No upfront money is needed. Once you sell your cards, turn in money and stubs. Unsold cards must be returned. For each card sold, $13 goes into your student's account.

PATRON ADs

Although the deadline to be included in the football program has passed, the collection for patron ads continues. Note that once a patron ad is submitted, it is then included in all of the concert programs for the school year plus KOB. The next deadline for submissions is September 29th to be included in our KOB program.

T-SHIRTS

We will continue selling leftover t-shirts from prior years at football games and other events, including surplus red dry weave shirts worn under the old band uniforms. These vintage designs are in limited supply, so be sure to get yours fast!

VOLUNTEER INFO:
We STILL Need You! (Yes, YOU!)

Parent volunteers are needed in many areas, and you can fill out the NHSIMB Volunteer Form to let us know your interests and availability.

If you’re going to VOLUNTEER in any capacity, please be sure you complete your NHSIMB Volunteer Form and Neshaminy Volunteer Clearances . Send a copy of completed clearances to Mr. Lipton . Questions regarding clearances? Contact Amanda Clark at 267-254-2022 or neshguardmom@gmail.com .

KALEIDOSCOPE OF BANDS

please mark your calendars for October 27! We need all hands on deck. If you haven't already, please turn in your KOB volunteer form to indicate your area of preference. We will be working on assignments over the next couple of weeks.

On our website (link below) on the NHSIMB Forms page, you can find the KOB volunteer form PLUS the KOB ad forms (personal and business ads). The KOB ads help fund the competition as well as help boost your student's account (50% of the business ad amounts - can't beat that!!).

PLEASE Help With Parking at NHS

Mr. Lipton has instituted some important parking procedures at NHS and we are asking all parents to follow these to ensure drop off and pick up go as quickly and smoothly as possible:

DROP OFF

Please pull down towards the red auditorium doors. Stopping by the band room causes a back-up of cars trying to turn into the main driveway.

SMALL PARKING LOT OUTSIDE OF BAND ROOM

This is for Marching Band Staff, NHSIMB Exec Board, and Uniform Chairs only. Please do not park in this lot or block the entrance at any time.

DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF MUSIC ROOMS / AUDITORIUM

Please DO NOT park along the curb in order to allow our pit members room to unload equipment safely. During away events, this area needs to be clear for buses to pull up and unload.
Black Dry Weave Shirts

Every marching band student received a new black dry weave shirt with the Neshaminy logo during uniform fittings. This shirt is part of the uniform and must be worn under the jacket for every game and competition.

Many students find it beneficial to have extra shirts, especially on weekends when we have back-to-back events. Extra shirts can be purchased for $15 ($18 for sizes 2XL and 3XL) using the order form linked here . These will be available throughout the marching band season.

Apparel Orders

Please note the following:

  1. Sale ends September 9th! If someone would still like to order after the end date, there will be a late fee added to their order. (Note: we will run another sale in October leading up to the holidays!)
  2. Order carefully. The distributor does not accept returns on any personalized items. There are sizing charts available here: http://www.kampusklothes.com/sizing-charts
  3. Orders will be fulfilled 3 weeks after the closing date.
  4. Backordered items: There are times when the manufacturers stock for items offered on our online stores may become unavailable or backordered. If that should occur, the individuals who purchased that item will be contacted and offered an alternative product or a refund. Once contacted about a backorder, if Kampus Klothes does not hear back from you within 24 hours, your order will be cancelled and they will refund your money.

Should you have any questions, please contact Diane Tecalco at onlinesales@kampusklothes.com .

Finally, we are still in need of a parent volunteer to take over apparel order management. Please contact Gerald Aungst ( gaungst@gmail.com , 215-530-2283) if you are interested in helping with this area or if you have any questions.
