The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division just published additional guidance on the protections and requirements of the Fair Labor Standards (FLSA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) on how they impact workplaces as they reopen during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The guidance includes a Fact Sheet for Employees, a Fact Sheet for Employers, a Question & Answer document about paid sick leave and the expanded family and medical leave under the FFCRA, and more.

Beware of COVID-19 Scams

The Small Business Administration's (SBA's) Office of Inspector General is alerting businesses about potential fraud schemes related to economic stimulus programs offered by the SBA in response to COVID-19. Fraudsters have already begun targeting small business owners. Be on the lookout for grant fraud, loan fraud, and phishing. The SBA does not initiate contact on 7a loans, disaster loans, or grants. If you are proactively contacted by someone claiming to be from the SBA, suspect fraud.

Congress Headed for Stimulus Showdown
A fight over the next round of coronavirus aid is coming as lawmakers prepare to get a deal, facing an August 7 deadline, significant policy differences, and an upcoming election. Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi say they think they will be able to get a deal, but have not started negotiating. McConnell is expected to lay out the forthcoming GOP proposal to his caucus as soon as today.
