LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT What an amazing month we've had! At the April 21, General Membership Meeting we announced the 2020 Award Winners 2020 Associate of the Year- Jake Yates with STCU 2020 Builder of the Year- Scot Haug Selkirk Construction 2020 Company of the year First Interstate Bank Thank you for all who gave support to the community, NIBCA, IBCA, and NAHB in 2020. Congratulations! The 49th Home and Garden show was this past weekend and was a huge success! As you are aware this is one of our major fundraisers and while the exact numbers are forthcoming, we did better this year than last!  With more than 100 different venders in a variety of categories participating in the 3-day show, the patrons got expert advice for their home projects. Over 60 NIBCA Members participated in this year’s event and took advantage of the discounted booth rate. The event impressions- how many people saw/heard the advertisements in one form or another- was well over 479,000- great exposure for our Event Sponsors- ICCU, AllKlean, Veritas Stone, Findlay Auto, TDS, KPND and NIBCA. Congratulations to the 2021 Home and Gardens Show Booth Winners! 1st Place Wild West Rustic Furniture 2nd Place Building Ground Landscape 3rd Place New Leaf Nursery Thank you to Next Gen Logging for having Smokey the bear and KPND for providing cookies for the kids. We are grateful to the Volunteers provided by Professional Women in Building who spent over 136 hours at the event as well as the many hours of planning from the Committee. A special thanks to Jennifer Jenkins from PWB who coordinated the Volunteers and the Committee Members Rod Underhill, Stefani Hoffman, Kay Rice, Jennifer Jenkins, Chaired by Jared Ban. We would also like to thank the Scout Troop 201 for parking attendants and clean up as well as the Kootenai County Fairgrounds and their staff for helping us with the day-to-day issues that happen. Higher Lumber Costs Add More Than $35K to New Home Prices, $119 to Monthly Rent by Paul Emrath According to NAHB’s latest estimates, rising softwood lumber prices over the last 12 months have added $35,872 to the price of an average new single-family home, and $12,966 to the market value of an average new multifamily home. That increase in multifamily value translates to households paying $119 a month more to rent a new apartment. Regional Housing & Growth Issues Partnership Prioritization Survey The first full meeting of the Regional Housing and Growth Issues Partnership took place Monday April 26th at 3pm. Of the invited participants and advisory organizations, 95% attended - approximately 40 people were in attendance.  The meeting was recorded, and links and resources will be posted to the KMPO.net website at this link.   The Partnership includes city and planning representatives from Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Rathdrum and Dalton Gardens. The advisory body consists of representatives of Community organizations, including the Chambers of Commerce.   Len Crosby represents the Post Falls Chamber on the Advisory Committee. Len and our Joint Public Policy Commiteee would like to ask each of our members to complete the very short survey no later than May 5th.   Please take a moment to fill out this important survey, your input is important to us!
