Beware of email phishing scams

Several NIC students and employees have reported being targeted by fake job offer scams, putting them in financial and legal risk. These job offers are almost always unsolicited.

If someone contacts you or your students with an unexpected job offer, here are some things to look for to determine if it’s a scam:

·      Scams ask for personal information like your bank account number
·      Scams often request gift cards
·      Scams are too good to be true
·      Scams have spelling and grammar errors
·      Scams sometimes ask you to reply from a different email account
·      Scams may impersonate instructors, advisors, deans or other members of the NIC community

When in doubt, please forward the email to the NIC IT Help Desk at helpdesk@nic.edu to help you validate if the email is a scam or not.

Please see the Beware of Email Phishing Scams knowledge base article for additional information.
