Find Rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

By this time, schools have wrapped up the 2024-2025 school year. Some workers are planning for Vacation Bible School, and others getting ready for summer camps. Still others? A bit of rest and relaxation. I pray that each of the LCMS Northern Illinois District ordained, commissioned, lay, and volunteer workers will take some time to rest.

It has been a very busy year of educating, meeting, planning, and the list goes on. But... the greatest gift has been to receive, and then share, the love of Jesus in everything that was done. That love looked like a simple smile along the way, a hug given, a listening ear, or a shoulder to cry on. It looked like a person stepping up to help in a time of need or waiting patiently; a word of forgiveness given or received.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 11, “…take my yoke upon you and learn from me…you will find rest for your souls…For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

When that last bit of energy is depleted and you don’t think you can go on, remember that God holds you and will give you the strength. Jesus bore the burdens, including all of our sin and sorrow, He bore these out of love for each of us. Rest this summer, in the assurance that you are held in the loving arms of Christ! By His wounds we are healed.

As we place our faith and trust in God, we can all be thankful that God holds us in the palm of His hand and gives us what He knows is best for us. So, when trials come, step back and know God’s plan is perfect. Stay in the Word. Take care of yourself to be Well. Use your words and life as a Witness. "In All Things," God is faithful.

Have a wonderful and restful summer!
