All Acupuncturists, Acupuncture Associations, Schools, Students and Patients are asked to submit feedback to NCCIH by September 3, 2019!
Dear Acupuncture Supporters:
The NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) is requesting feedback on the development of a database for "acupoints". The deadline for submission is September 3rd. (The original due date was August 4, but it has been extended.) The call is entitled, “Request for Information (RFI): Important Considerations for Potential Creation of an Open-Access Repository or Database for Physiological and Anatomical Ontology of Acupoints”
The American Society of Acupuncturists (ASA) has prepared responses to the requested information. If you would also like to comment, please do so by September 3rd!
Appropriate anatomical references and anatomical regions for acupoints
Appropriate nomenclature standards for “acupoints”
Value of acupoints for treatment of complex diseases and disorders
Appropriate outcome measures (e.g., biochemical responses, physiological responses) for acupoints
Other key data standards
Minimum data requirements for acupoints
Importance of harmonizing standards with publication requirements
Other types of transcutaneous peripheral stimulation paradigms that might be included (e.g., acupressure, laser, skin surface electrodes)
Necessary analysis tools for the most value
Minimum size in terms of number and diversity of acupoints for maximum usefulness
Desired key features and functionality from different perspectives including: users, data contributors, and/or research community
Please feel free to note that you support the ASA comments, or add ideas of your own. This is an exciting project and as much guidance from the community as possible would be valued.
Sincerely,
The Board of the American Society of Acupuncturists
