Music and Medicine: Michael Weiner, a professor of Radiology in the School of Medicine, plays the piano with his jazz quartet at Pier 23 Café in San Francisco on Feb. 25. Weiner, who has played the piano since he was 3 years old, is a pioneering brain imaging researcher whose NIH-funded research is working to move dementia screening online. Celebrating Women's History Month at UCSF
When Lucy Field Wanzer said she wanted to study medicine, an instructor told her that a woman had no business doing so, and if she did, ought to get her ovaries removed. Her reply: “Then men students ought to have their testicles removed.”

Wanzer went on to become the first woman to graduate from UCSF in 1876.
