NIPFC October Blast
Greetings!

In this October blast, we are excited to share newly created media offerings and an opportunity to join our 2021 supervisor coaching series!

First off, we release 3 podcasts recorded with Outagamie County (WI) Children Youth and Families leadership and staff on installing and implementing Family Finding over the last five years, and share reports which summarize their work so far this year.

Secondly we include links to 3 video webinars produced by the Judicial Council of California that focus on visitation/family time and COVID-19, and involve NIPFC Senior Permanency Trainer Kelly Lynn Beck. MCLE’s are available to California attorneys who watch the webinars, and they are hosted on the Judicial Council’s “CAL-DOG” website, which requires registration but not any fee or subscription in order to access this material, along with many order written and video resources.

Finally, look below for information about our zoom-based supervisor coaching series, which will begin in 2021. A number of people have already signed up when we debuted the opportunity early this month during the Kempe Center's Conference "A Call to Action to Change Child Welfare”, but there are still openings available for supervisors who are interested in participating!

We have three new episodes of,
Let's Have a Conversation!

In our 11th through 13th episodes, Director Bob Friend sits with leaders and staff in Outagamie County (WI) Children Youth and Families, who have worked over the last 5 years to install and implement Family Finding. Their journey began with attending 6 day long sessions of Family Finding training with Kelly Beck and Bob Friend in 2014, and then developed a leadership team to work on sustainability. Over the years they have demonstrated the cost effectiveness of their work and were able to increase their staffing by 2 additional positions. These podcasts cover their journey, some of the key moments and lessons learned along the way, along with some success stories they shared.

They have also graciously shared their data demonstrating their effectiveness , click the link to see the report. In the words of Supervisor Jennifer Sailer, “I was amazed by the results. There is a clear correlation between the length of time children spend in out of home care with quicker reunification and TPR/guardian for children placed with their families or kin.   The values of the Family Find Program and how we practice at Outagamie County has been so impactful and yielded amazing results for children. We have been so lucky to have a team of amazing social workers dedicated to do this work. Not only do they have great results with the families they work with, the work they do and the values of the Family Find process has trickled into everyone’s practice in the county."

"The Family Find workers have done trainings this past year for foster parents and social workers to teach them more about Family Find and why this work is so important. We have been working on new things to improve our program as well. We developed an electronic survey for families and workers to provide feedback on the process with anonymity. https://www.outagamie.org/government/departments-f-m/health-human-services/children-youth-and-families/foster-care/family-find-survey. Overall, I have been so lucky to work with such a great team. Their dedication to this work is outstanding and their drive to continually look at things and evaluate on how we can continue to grow and do better, improving outcomes for children.”

- Jennifer Sailer, Supervisor, Outagamie County (WI) Children Youth and Families.
