We are proud to announce that Kristen Moran-Daleo has been promoted to the Associate Executive Director of NIS.  Kristen holds a Masters degree in Social Work and is licensed by the State of New York as a Social Worker and School District Leader.  She began her career at NIS in 1999 as the Clinical Coordinator and was appointed as the Director of Clinical Services in 2007, where she interfaced with preschool special education committees of various school districts, oversaw the delivery of clinical therapeutic services, and acted as the direct supervisor for all clinical department coordinators.  In her expanded role, in addition to managing NIS's primary site, Kristen also oversees the NIS preschool programs in the Longwood, South Country, and Patchogue-Medford School districts.

The playground is open daily unless deemed unsafe. We ask that you please dress your child appropriately for the weather, anticipating he/she will go outside every day . During the colder months, please make sure there is a hat and gloves in your child's backpack. We recommend that you send your child in wearing sneakers daily as they are the safest shoe for running. However, if it is snowing, an additional pair of sneakers or boots is recommended so your child has a dry pair of shoes when coming inside.

This month, the students at NIS will be enjoying winter activities in gym. They  will be ice skating while wearing surgical booties on our smooth floor. Ice skating music adds to the fun. The children are always so creative. They skate backwards, practice spins and use their arms in graceful movements.   They will also pretend to be penguins. They will slide down an incline on their bellies, waddle when they walk into the gym, and practice walking across icebergs being careful not to fall in the water with the polar bears.

Yoga will be introduced. The students will practice different yoga poses and breathing techniques. These exercises help develop balance, strength and motor planning.

Our after school basketball sports program for graduates is starting in January. Please see Dawn if you are interested, as there are only a few spaces left.

Activities at home could include skating in socks on wood or tile floors, skating on the carpet using paper plates, moving like penguins and throwing and catching. Look on YouTube for yoga activities for preschoolers. Enjoy and let your kids use their imagination.

It's Snowing!  Is School Delayed/Closed?
Please be advised that NIS will close or modify school hours when a determination has been made that the children and/or staff cannot be transported in a safe and timely manner due to weather conditions in our area. We make this decision with input from local school districts and the bus company.

What is it and what exercises can we do to develop it?
