Enjoying Halloween with Sensory Challenges

Halloween can be an overwhelming time for any child, but for a child with sensory challenges it can be especially difficult. Here are some tips from the American Occupational Therapy Association on enjoying Halloween with sensory challenges.

Here at NIS, we are proud to use the Incredible Years program throughout our school. The Incredible Years program is a child, teacher, and parent program that aims to improve behaviors and social skills in children.

Every week, puppets named Wally, Dina, and their friends visit the children in class to learn and practice new skills, with help from Miss Paula. Over the course of this year, the children will be learning about how to do their best in school, how to identify feelings and solve problems, and how to make friends. Games, videos, songs, and activities are used to teach and practice the skills taught in each lesson.

All of our teachers and educational staff members are trained with the Incredible Years program as well. In this training, teachers learn how to support positive behaviors in the classroom, and learn ways to carry over the skills taught in the weekly Incredible Years lessons.
We're looking forward to an Incredible Year!!
