Migrations Will Begin in February View as Webpage
NISC’s Meter Data Management Beginning Migration to Amazon Web Services

Starting February, NISC will begin migrating our Meter Data Management (MDM) to Amazon Web Services (AWS) from our on-premise datacenter. NISC Members will have a brief interruption in their use of MDM as we complete the migration. Detailed below is what will happen on the day of your migration, and for some NISC Members, there are a few extra steps involved in the process. NISC will take a phased approach with migrating MDM to AWS.

  • Phase 1 - February 2025
Throughout the month of February, we will work with five beta partners to migrate to AWS. This will allow us to perform extensive testing and monitoring of the process. If you are selected as a beta partner, you will be contacted directly.
  • Phase 2 – April 2025
We will begin moving all remaining NISC MDM sites to AWS. We will be able to work with roughly 10 Member domains at a time, starting in April and continuing through 2025. Each site will be communicated with as we will need Securelink access to iVUE Administrator.

Migration Day Process

  • Our goal is to start your migration after completing AMI file imports and morning NISC File Exports. As a precaution, we will pause your import process.
    • Should any files be submitted to import, they will go into the queue and wait to be imported. As soon as we complete the migration, we will resume imports, and the files in queue will begin to process.
      • Some Members import nearly every hour of the day. These Members will likely have files in queue following the migration.
  • NISC will update all required URLs between iVUE and MDM.
    • To fulfill the migration, an NISC employee will request log-in access to iVUE Administrator.

Additional Step Required for Some NISC Members

If your site’s AMI files come via a 3rd Party API Push, NISC will reach out directly to coordinate a phone call with our Support Team.

  • This additional step requires that scripts are updated on your AMI server that NISC alone cannot access for making the necessary changes.

If you are using either of our MDM APIs.

  • This additional step requires that the updated URL be incorporated into any APIs you may call currently.

On the day of migration, we don’t anticipate any performance issues with this move. You will be able to continue using your MDM software as normal. We project the total time could be up to two hours, which factors in the changes listed in our Migration Day steps; that means the total time could be longer depending on the time it takes to accomplish the Additional Step Required for Some NISC Members section.

Additionally, it is extremely important to note that your MDM URL will change with this migration, as mentioned previously in this message. If you have any bookmarks, they will need to be updated after your migration is complete.

URL Changes

  • Old URL: https://[Domain Name].cloud.coop/……
  • New URL: https://[Domain Name].mdm.cloud.coop/…..

As an example, NISC’s demo environment for MDM’s URL is, “momdmdemomstr.cloud.coop”. Following the migration, this URL changes to, “momdmdemomstr.mdm.cloud.coop”.

If you have any questions about the migration, please reach out to me or the MDM Support Team at mdmssupport@nisc.coop or 866.999.6472, Option 2 for Utility (if this menu is reached), then ext. 7191.
