The 2025 Pilot Program is designed to propel clinical and translational science initiatives throughout NJ ACTS, engaging our academic alliance partners (Rutgers, Princeton, and New Jersey Institute of Technology) and our health system partner, RWJ Barnabas Health.

Our initiative seeks to furnish initial resources aimed at nurturing programs that can then vie competitively for expanded extramural support, leveraging funding opportunities such as Element E or RC2 (see RFA for explanation) studies pertinent to NJ ACTS or through independent extramural avenues (R or K series grants).

Total funding support may not exceed $40,000 for 6-9 months.

NJ ACTS Biostatistics and Epidemiology Workshop Series

Introduction to Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART) for Prediction Modeling and Causal Inference

presented by

Dr. Jason Roy

Professor and Chair

Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology

BART is a popular tree-based, machine-learning method that is useful for prediction modeling and causal inference. In this workshop, we present information about what BART is, why it works well, and in what situations it is useful. We show how to implement BART in R and demonstrate its use using real clinical data.

Take Action Today!

Speak Up for Research Funding – Take Action Today

With the March 14 deadline to finalize the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 budget fast approaching, it’s critical that Congress hears from the scientific community about the importance of strong investments in NIH, NSF, FDA, ARPA-H, CDMRP, and more. These agencies drive medical breakthroughs, improve public health, and keep the U.S. at the forefront of innovation. Without sustained funding, research progress could slow, delaying new treatments and technologies that save lives and strengthen our economy. Now is the time to ensure that biomedical research remains a national priority.

We encourage you to take action today by sending AIMBE's pre-drafted FY25 budget letter to your Members of Congress with a few simple clicks:

Showcasing the

NJ ACTS Clinical and Translational Pilot Grant Awardees

NJ ACTS awarded pilot grants to four outstanding projects under its Clinical and Translational Science Pilot Program. This is the third pilot to be highlighted.

Rutgers Researchers Investigating Maternal Preconception Care

Rutgers researchers Anat Chemerinski, MD, and Stephen Crystal, PhD, are investigating preconception care. As maternal mortality rates in the US continue to climb, with the highest rates in the non-Hispanic Black population, a focus on preconception care is warranted. They will assess baseline screening rates and outcomes while piloting an innovative mobile application to improve preconception care delivery.
