What is the BERD Core?


The Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Research Design Core (BERD) was created to enhance clinical and translational research across the NJACTS community by providing professional, high quality study design, quantitative and qualitative (mixed methods) data analysis, survey research, data management services, development of innovative methodologies, as well as group and individual training and instruction in biostatistics, epidemiology, and research design.

RADx-UP Project Spotlights Essential Workers

Too Often Overlooked in Health Care


NJ ACTS congratulates Community Core Co-Lead Shawna Hudson and Advisory Council Member Diane Hill on their work with Emily Barrett, Rutgers School of Public Health and Manuel Catañeda of New Brunswick Tomorrow in their collaboration for the New Jersey Healthcare Essential Worker Outreach and Education Study – Testing Overlooked Occupations (NJ HEROES TOO) project.

Princeton Researchers Find a Path Toward Hep E Treatment by Disentangling Its Knotty Structure


NJ ACTS congratulates Alexander Ploss and his team for their work on Hepatitis E. They focused on a Hep E protein called ORF1, determining a mysterious sequence of its genome creates a molecular scaffold to stabilize the rest of the ORF1 protein. Their work could contribute to developing new treatments for “this under-studied human viral pathogen,” said Ploss. Read the Full Article

Interested in an Entry-level Position as a Study Coordinator?​ The Rutgers School of Health Professions in collaboration with NJACTS developed a 6-week academic badge designed for Clinical Research Professionals, novice investigators, and students with little to no clinical research or pharmaceutical experience who would like to participate in clinical research at an Academic Medical Center as a “study coordinator”.
