NJ Integrated Population Health Data (iPHD) Project

Virtual Research Consortium

The iPHD aims to improve the health, safety, security, and well-being of New Jersey residents, as well as the efficiency of state government, by securely linking administrative datasets to support approved research projects.

The iPHD Project will begin accepting applications in July 2022. Researchers from academic institutions, private or public organizations, and government agencies are strongly encouraged to submit proposals requesting data. In addition, in this first round of applications, the iPHD will provide competitive funding to support up to four (4) pilot projects from NJ research institutions. We encourage you to visit the iPHD website to learn more about the research priorities, data available through the iPHD and application requirements.

Rutgers Research Collaboration Explores Link

Between Alzheimer's and COVID-19

A collaboration between Rutgers-Newark neuroscience researcher Mark Gluck and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) researcher Patricia Fitzgerald-Bocarsly, who studies immune systems and is RBHS provost, was featured in the Daily Beast as a potentially breakthrough study. Read the full story here.

Dr. Gluck received a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the cognitive, neural, and immunological consequences of COVID-19 in older African Americans and how they relate to risk for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Gluck are collaborating with two leading immunologists at the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS)/NJ Medical School on this new grant, Patricia Fitzgerald-Bocarsly, Provost of NJMS/RBHS-Newark and Professor of Pathology, and Marila Gennaro, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology. The joint award will support interdisciplinary research across the three labs – bridging neuroscience, public health, and immunology – allowing graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from both Rutgers-Newark and RBHS to expand in new directions.

Marila Gennaro is Co-Lead for the NJ ACTS Biomarkers Core.

Patricia Fitzgerald-Bocarsly is a member of the NJ ACTS Academy of Mentors.

COVID-19 Vaccines Would Not Exist

without this Unsung Princeton Technology

It might not look like much — a plastic box that fits in the hand, with tiny tubes jutting out the top and bottom. Too simple to be cutting edge. Too humble to save so many lives.

But for 20 years, researchers in Robert Prud’homme’s lab have fine-tuned this little box that has revolutionized drug manufacturing, enabling everything from mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines to malaria drugs. The life-saving molecules that treat those diseases are fragile, and they must survive an epic voyage from a lab bench, through the supply chain, into a blood cell. Encapsulation gives them a secure vehicle and a final heading. It’s a delicate craft backed by complex mathematics, and over the arc of his career, Prud’homme has become a master craftsman.

Professor Prud’homme, from Princeton’s Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, is a member of the NJ ACTS Academy of Mentors as a TL1 and KL2 preceptor.

NCATS Rapid Response Workshop & Un-Meeting

Two-Day Event

Making Real-World Data and Real-World Evidence

a Reality for Translational Science

Moving scientific discoveries into the “real world” effectively, efficiently, and safely are core principles of translational science. With the advent of big data analytics and data derived from multiple sources, it has become increasingly clear that utilizing data from real-world contexts opens another key layer of the translational science process.

Day 1 Workshop

  • Multiple 20-minute case study presentations divided into four sessions
  • Each session will be followed by a Q&A

Day 2 Un-Meeting

  • Brief, high-level pre-recorded 4x4 presentations given by subject matter experts on a topic of their choice
  • Followed by two rounds of breakout rooms: 1) pre-determined topics and 2) participant-driven topics
