Community Scientists Showcase

New Brunswick Tomorrow (NBT) is dedicated to advancing health equity and improving quality of life for residents across New Brunswick through collaboration, outreach, and community empowerment. Community Health Ambassadors are trusted neighborhood residents trained by NBT to serve as liaisons between the community and health system.

Jaymie Santiago, President of NBT, shared, “With that information, our CHAs are much more than community members—they are health promoters that have developed into premier patient navigators, assisting New Brunswick residents in accessing health and social benefits, including programs and resources for needed health care services. As a result, the CHAs help us improve access to healthcare for all New Brunswick residents. It is through their work in the community that the CHAs are able to uniquely help participants overcome system barriers, to truly help create a culture of health in our community.”

Impact: Engagement with over 2500+ residents annually through community outreach events and neighborhood canvassing.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Safe Kids Worldwide--a global pediatric injury prevention program--have partnered to lead the Safe Kids Middlesex County (SKMC) local coalition.

SKMC provides useful community safety resources, including playground tips, a car seat inspection station finder, and helmet safety.

Middlesex County’s Latino Telehealth Program, a community initiative expanding access to bilingual telemedicine, has now launched in New Brunswick. In partnership with New Brunswick Tomorrow, the program enhances healthcare access for uninsured and under-insured residents through convenient, culturally responsive telehealth services.

The expansion establishes local telehealth hubs offering free internet, technology support, and bilingual staff. These hubs ensure residents can access preventative and specialized care regardless of language, insurance coverage, or digital literacy.
