Re: Approved NJASA Ad Hoc School Safety & Security Report

Dear Colleagues:

At the May 17, 2023, NJASA Executive Committee meeting, the Association's leadership unanimously passed for acceptance the NJASA Ad Hoc School Safety & Security Report.

NJASA Ad Hoc School Safety & Security Committee Co-Chairs, Dr. MaryJane Garibay, Chief Education Officer, Colts Neck Township School, and Dr. Charles B. Sampson, Chief Education Officer, Freehold Regional High School District, highlighted the Report's recommendations and thanked the Committee's members for their time and work over the last several months.

The Approved School Safety Security Report May 17, 2023

School Safety and Security

Sub-Committee Final Report

2-Page Overview

Key Findings and Implications

  • School districts have disparate access to specific school security measures across New Jersey.
  • The vast majority of Chief School Administrators and Superintendents cited safety and security as their most pressing priority in regards to training.
  • A more comprehensive and exhaustive guide is needed to replace the 2015 school security task force report.
  • Legislative support for school safety and security infrastructure and personnel upgrades is needed.

Sincerely,
